maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 (edited) Hello all, #1 how do I pull a system diag for emby since know it will be asked? #2 is it common or has it been seen that running emby theater on the same device as Emby server can result in subtitles not ''appearing'' at the right times? I have a set of files that are 10bit HVEC, that when played on the two sperate upstairs Emby-clients have no issues rendering the subtitles on time. But when watching the same files on the device that acts as the server and downstairs Emby media player the same files play the subtitles at the incorrect times, then not at all then flash them on/off extremally fast in the same episode. To detail that out, from the very start of the show, or halfway through or almost to the end of the same episode the subtitles will be off by as much as a few seconds, to 5-6 seconds before appearing, then later no subs appear at all, and later on they pop up but only for a super fast 250-300MS. Playing the same file in the same device in Mediaplayer classic does not reproduce the issue, nor does VLC. Playing on a Emby-client only system upstairs the issue does not occur at all. maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 Additional data; non-10-bit files play fine.. totally spaced that out.
sooty234 266 Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Are you using this version of the app? https://emby.media/emby-theater.html
sooty234 266 Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Try the latest test build. If the result is the same, describe your hardware, and post screenshots of your settings in Theater.
maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 Issue persisted in the same manner. what screenshots are you looking for? I am seeing ill need about 15 screenshots..

sooty234 266 Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Need to know what GPU you are using, too.
maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 (edited) here's a start! DxDiag output.. i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz 4-physical cores, 4-hyperhtreaded. CPU is hard locked at 3.4ghz, It never drops under 3.4Ghz 1030 GT Nvidia ; supports decode hevc, but not encode hevc 16GB ram OS on a SSD Emby server and theater installed to the SSD Transcode DIR is on the SSD Media files on (2) 4tb platter drives Power profile set to 'high performance', no drive sleep getting screenshots.. maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 (edited) those are the defaults obviously from the beta player. Additional data ; playing the file from the server>browser makes the issue ''worse'' .. the subs pop in and out nearly instantly and not very often. Edited November 4, 2020 by maxxcool7421
maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 Im off to bed, check back in later .. thank you very much for your review of the issue.
sooty234 266 Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Ok, so let's get an mpv log. Unzip the folder to: C:\users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming Open the file mpv.conf You'll see the line log-file=" Complete the line to specify the directory and file name. I suggest the desktop, as it's easy to find, but anywhere is fine. So it will look something like this: log-file="C:\Users\maxxcool7421\Desktop\mpv log.txt" Play the video once, and attach the log.
maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 Will do. New data; the beta player broke 4k video just as a FYI. Given the break in the 4k, should I revert to stable/published non-rc code for the data collection?

MPV settings file does not exist? Searched and did not find it in the root if roaming, figured it was in a subfolder so searched and did nor see it here... searched all of C volume and did not find it... did a in file text search for log-file and also did not get any hits on C volume ... sooty234 266 Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 (edited) Oh my bad, I forgot to attach the zip file. You can do it yourself, though. You have the mpv folder, just make a file called mpv.conf. And put the log-file line in it. Edited November 4, 2020 by sooty234
maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 LOL .. NP, I do Enterprise support... I forget from time to time to attach diag files .. no worries
maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 attached Episode 1 ran ''good'' but was still having delays in rendering the subtitles. And not all the Subs rendered.. Id peg it at 85% accruate Episode 2 is a good example for the typical behavior .. subs flashing on/off fast, not appearing at all and VERY delayed .. mpv log.txt
maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 (edited) FYI I ordered a TURING based Nvidia 1650 (tu117) card to replace the 1030gt .. I did not notice that the 1030gt did not support encoding 10bit HEVC .. might be playing a part since it is a client on server setup? Edited November 4, 2020 by maxxcool7421
maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 (edited) So I grabbed 2 other 10bit files from other sources and they are playing ok, starting to think this is a issue with a combo of :: --the card (1030gt) being older and not handling 10bit encoding. --running Emby Theater on the same machine as the Emby server --and some kind of codec issue with the files in question... Edited November 4, 2020 by maxxcool7421
sooty234 266 Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 I can't look at the log until later, but are you saying it's working correctly with the 1650? That would make sense. The 1030 is hybrid.
maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 Don't have the TU117-Based 1650 card yet... but the 1030gt is on my suspect list. I will take about a week to arrive .. I think it is a combination of things and the newer Nvidia encode/decode block with better 10bit support will help. I wonder if there are encoding situations the 1030 GT just cannot do ''well enough''
sooty234 266 Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 mpv is predominantly a software player. You probably have enough CPU juice to play that. So make sure you don't have a lot of background processes running, and turn off hardware acceleration in Theater. Then try playing the video and see what happens.
maxxcool7421 0 Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 ? Turn off HWD ACCEL ? .. Will do that in a few minutes ..
