Conversion GPU Acceleration

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I have been starting to create a mobile version of my content testing it to start. I am using the Windows server with 2x Nvidia graphics cards that I have used with conversion in Plex.

Right now when start a "convert" task, the GPU is never accessed. I have confirmed that hardware acceleration is enabled and using the advanced menu, I can tell that Emby sees the Nvidia cards.

I exported the logs for the hardware detection and the convert task. To me the hardware detection looks successful but in the convert task, CanDoInHardware and WillDoInHardware are both false.

Thanks

Okay then can we please look at an example?

Thank you for pointing out the guide. I was able to pull the logs and add more detail to the original post.

@cyrus104 - The log file is titled "Remux". When remuxing, there is never any hardware acceleration involved.

Ha.  Good point.  There is nothing to "accelerate" :)

Ok, interesting. What is the difference in remux versus a "normal" conversion?

I want to convert them to original quality mobile, so they will play on chromecast, browser, and mobile devices without transcoding needed.

Thanks

That statement is actually contradictory :).   When you choose original quality that means it will not convert the video.  Therefore, there is no need for GPU involvement because no video is being converted.

A remux is when either just the container is being changed or just the audio is being converted.

Does that make sense?

That makes perfect sense, because I think several of these just need to audio converted to be compatible.
