Tx3g subtitles embedded in MP4 not playing in Emby

Emby 4.04 on TCL/Roku TV.             Emby server 4.5.2

I tried forcing scheduled tasks to dl .srt from Open Subtitles, but it failed to find any.
I know the embeddeds work in Finder, but not with Emby.

Attached is server log.

It's 4 eps of an old German show, Raumpatrouille Orion.
I'd attached a piece of the show, but I can't seem to edit/export with subtitles from the original source.

Hi there, have you tried them in the web app? How does that compare?

Hi Luke.  in between I found and dl'd the subs.  Whether they are the original subs or the dl'd ones, they play on the web app.

After dl'dg, I tried on the TV again.  Nada.  Toggled subs.  No change. 

Then I saw the gear to the far right of the transport control on the bottom.

I clicked "'attempt to restart video"'.  That fixed it last night, but not today.

What time did you try to play in the log file you posted?

not positive but I think 10p or so eastern.

HI, are you sure you turned on the subtitles in the Roku app?

yup.  last night I was playing back an ep of Orion.  no subs. toggled subs on/off.  clicked attempt to restart video.  nothing.

went back to the top level of the roku app, tapped Emby again.  subs came on.
I'm only posting FYI.  I have one ep left to watch and since I have a way in it's no big, but I figured it's an issue?

It's the only sub issue I've had, except when I don't have subs.  I have had to force sub retrieval in a couple cases and in a few cases, even that has turned up no subs.

Then I go to Open Subtitles site and get them manually.

Ok, moving to Roku section so that @speechles can help you.

speechles - from the server log it doesn't look like the app ever requested the subtitles. It should have downloaded them externally as srt or vtt.

It is the MP4 with embedded subtitle issue again. I think we solved this. But I can make sure what we have done is going to work correctly. Stay tuned.
