Why do you say you don't need it for your tablets and phones? If you are using more devices than our standard license, we do have extended license options. Thanks.
embyuser2020 0 Posted October 14, 2020 Author Posted October 14, 2020 so there is no way to control which device will get premiere and which not?
ebr 16185 Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Any device connected to your server has access to Premiere features. Our standard license is designed for single family use so 25 devices is plenty for that. We have the other options available for other uses. Thanks.
embyuser2020 0 Posted October 14, 2020 Author Posted October 14, 2020 ok so 1. what are the options for other uses? and 2. let's say i have 30 devices, and i bought a 25 device license. that means that the first 25 to connect to the system will be premiere and the last 5 will stay free edition?

Any attempt to utilize a Premiere only feature by device 26+ will be denied with an error message about the limit.
embyuser2020 0 Posted October 14, 2020 Author Posted October 14, 2020 so i wont be able to use 26+ at all? or the 26+ will be like the free edition?

Just exactly that. It depends on exactly what app you're dealing with as to what will be allowed or denied. Emby Premiere Feature Matrix
embyuser2020 0 Posted October 14, 2020 Author Posted October 14, 2020 ok. so let me refine my question let's say all of my 30 devices are android tablets. android tablets can play the media normally even in the free version and now let's say i've purchased a 25 device license. does that mean that 25 devices will work premiere and 5 will work free? or does that mean that 25 will work premiere and the 5 will not work at all?
Carlo 4561 Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Hi, Refer to the chart ebr gave you a link for. Different apps have different requirements and you would need to look up each device. Some devices can play back media and wouldn't need a Premiere License unless you were using a Premiere feature such as Live TV. Some clients need a one-time app unlock for playback OR can use a Premiere License to UNLOCK for full playback. So no one can tell you what will happen except you who would need to know what services will be used and what devices. 25 Premiere device licenses is plenty for a normal family. A family of 5 people could each have 5 different devices that are constantly being used which is way beyond normal. Most families will have one device attached to a TV that get's shared by the whole family. So if you have 4 TVs in the house all using Premiere you'd still have 21 additional licenses available for family members.

Our mobile app requires Premiere or an unlock for full playback. The feature matrix indicates this. If you had purchased the unlock for that particular app/device then it would still play.
embyuser2020 0 Posted October 15, 2020 Author Posted October 15, 2020 thank you guys, but that still doesn't answer my question. in my hypothetical question above, will the additional 5 devices work as free like before the license, or will not work at all?

As long as they are free and they don't use Premiere features they will work (i.e. Samsung, LG, Apple TV without hardware transcoding and Live TV)

Sorry, I attempted to answer your question above. The answer is - it depends on whether those Android tablets have purchased the unlock and that the content is not also a Premiere only feature (such as Live TV).
Carlo 4561 Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 Here is how you can read and use the chart. You'll see Roku, Apple TV, LG and Samsung Smart TVs have free full playback. Let's say you setup your immediate family and 2 close friends and their immediate family. You have Live TV but ONLY use this for your immediate family and not your friends since they have their own cable or antenna service. All they need is full playback. If your two friends have 2 Roku boxes and a Samsung smart TV using the Emby App these would NOT count against your Premiere License since they aren't using Premiere Features. Now let's assume your friends ALSO have 8 Android devices (phones & tablet). These 8 devices will not have FULL playback unless they use a Premiere License OR they are unlocked. So now YOU THE ADMIN have a choice. You can allow those 8 device to use your Premiere license device count or you can ask those friends to unlock the apps at around $5 each per store account per app. You might have a friend with 3 MiBox-S devices connected to their TVs. If they setup those 3 devices with the same Google Play store account they can unlock all 3 devices for the same $5ish purchase since it's the same Play Store account. In the web admin on the server you can limit a user's access to devices if needed but hopefully a "friend" would honor your request to unlock the app if using it on YOUR system. So as you can see you need to look at the devices being used, what features they will require and if any apps are unlocked already that won't use Premiere Features.
