App picking wrong subtitles

Recommended Posts

Can you try selecting the AC3 audio track from the details screen before you start playback, this should make sure it DirectPlays instead of DirectStreaming.  Then please check whether it still selects the wrong subs.

Very strange, i can't playblack with AC3, the client crash and reboot.

If i select TRUEHD or DTS HD (with another movie) the movies just plays. But on stats for nerds, DirectStream info plays AC3

And is it possible to DirectPlay on wifi (this device is upstairs)?

Thanks in advance

It's unusual for the app to crash and reboot.

Samsung TV's do not support Direct playback of TrueHD and since 2018 do not support DTS either.  This is why these tracks are causing the audio track to be encoded.  With 4K content DirectStreaming is problematic and you will likely get playback issues.

I'm not sure why the client would be crashing.  You could try to uninstall the client, power cycle the TV, then reinstall the latest version and check if it still crashes.  I think it's important to test your file with the AC3 track to confirm if the subtitle selection issue is the same

Dear SamEs,

So it's due the Samsung TV. I do got the latest version.
The client is just a little buggy in comparison with the Android client.

I think i'll buy another Shield TV for the bedroom.
I want to watch REMUX movies with PGS

Thanks for your help

You don't need to buy a new device. We are working on resolving this. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Luke, you mean PGS subs for Samsung client?

I mean app picking wrong subtitles. Samsung TV's do not support PGS so there's nothing we can do about that.

That's great. So when you play the AC3 track, is the subtitle track selection now working correctly?

Great, thanks for confirming.  That means there is an issue with subtitle ordering when DirectStreaming.  I'll work on that!

I have two sound tracks in the movie.

If I choose "TRUEUD 7.1" audio then it shows the wrong subtitle language

If I choose "AC3 5.1" audio then it is show the correct subtitle language.

I use an external .srt subtitle file.

Why?  Is there an issue with the current release?  If you let us know what the problem is we can fix it.

Older releases generally won't work as Samsung time limits the beta and it won't install or run for a fixed period after it is created.

We can fix the issue for the TrueHD case, it's on my list.

However, as TrueHD is not supported and is being converted on the server to AC3 anyway, you will have better performance if you select the exisiting AC3 track as it will avoid transcoding the audio (and the subs issue!)

Ok. Is the direct streaming then video and not video and audio?

Do you have en ETA on the fix?

Thanks

I thought a subtitle issues could be solved with an older release. But I tried, but it have the same issue. I replied in another post regarding the subtitle issue.

Yep, I’ve replied in that thread

Direct Streaming is almost always when audio only is converted to something the Samsung TV supports and the video part is unconverted and sent as is.   If you display Stats for Nerds within the Samsung app it should tell you what is being converted and why

As SamES pointed out you will get best  results by selecting an audio codec which the TV supports before clicking Play.  Since TrueHD isn't listed in the chart below and AC3 is then just select the AC3 beforehand.  Either way you will be getting AC3 in the end

Same issue with some movies on v1.0.92 with TV model UE43RU7102KXXH (direct play, direct stream and hw transcoding). The issue was with the old 1.0.70 as well, seems to be something related with the tv model.

Tested with UE55K6372 on 1.0.70 and it's working fine. Updated to 1.0.92 and still works.

I'll send the logs and the video sample / subtitle on Sunday.
