guill69f 17 Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Hi everyone, I have emby 4.4.3.0 on my NAS and I can see that version 4.5.2.0 is released. Practically, how do I upgrade? Is this a manual process or will at some point the server version upgrade automatically? In the Syno package centre i have activated the auto-update option for Emby but to date it didn't pick 4.5.2.0... If there is somewhere a quick reference guide on how to do that, please share the link. Thanks!
kaj 316 Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 (edited) What has worked successfully is: 1. When upgrading from versions prior to 4.5.X.X, if you had previously created a user called Emby you will need to rename this user first, as from 4.5.X.X the installation will create a user called Emby 2. Download 4.5.2.0 from the Download Section of the Emby Website 3. Shutdown the server using the Dashboard within Emby (not Package Center) 4. Go to Package Center and check the Emby is now stopped. If not try from there. You can always also check in the Resource Monitor Synology app. 5. Install the .spk file you downloaded in point 1. using the Manuel Install option in Package Center. Emby should start automatically. If not start it. 6. Wait 5 to 10 minutes, at least. It can take time the first time with the new version. Did all those steps upgrading from 4.4.3, and at step 4 it's not starting automatically, and manual run circles back to stopped very quickly.... Tried a reboot and going thu the steps again... same result. Synology DS2415+ with intel atom c2538 using emby-server-synology_4.5.2.0_x86_64.spk. I'd toss some logs in here, but without emby running I'm adrift on how to do that. edit: And the local access port is 8096... if I understand that issue correctly that's not my problem... SwanStream 64 Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 In case it helps anyone else... and @Luke hopefully this helps with some of the issues defying explanation to date.... I'm guessing a basic check is NOT being done in the install process and therefore stumbling - I already had a userID called Emby for my own use as I was using windows server before moving it to synology... and liked using that ID for consistency on the 4.4.x version. After reading thu all 45.6 million threads (excuse frustrated exaggeration please!) about failed upgrades I finally found something saying the ID is moved to the Emby name. Renamed "my" previously existing Emby user, to a different name, redid the manual install. Seems to be loading. I suspect it's just a password or file permissions issue, but iStupid and know nothing 'bout it.. Helped myself this time, can I have a cookie?
Luke 42078 Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Glad to hear you figured it out. Thanks for the feedback and apologies for the bump in the road in getting the update applied.
