ArcticWolf 0 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Hello, Hopefully someone can help. Im currently running Emby on a capable pc ( meaning whenever im playing a movie on the pc thru VLC or wirelessly from a Roku Ultra, the pc/emby server is under barley any load). The movies are stored on a WD 8tb Easystore directly connected to the PC's USB 3.0 port. I only direct play locally and its just myself streaming. When I play a movie on my PC via VLC, I have no buffering issues. But when I play a movie on my living room TV via Roku Ultra, the movie/movies will buffer for 2 seconds, play for a few, then buffer again for 2 seconds, the play for a few. After like 2-5 mins the movie will play fine with no issues for like 45 mins or so. Then it will buffer/play/buffer/play. I keep all my media in 1080p H.264 in MKV format and AAC 5.1 or 2.0 for audio. The stats for nerds on my roku say direct play for all movies. My wifi from my roku runs at 111mpbs download. Any ideas? Thank you
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) From your report without log or examples I am just guessing but the symptom you describe sounds like wireless interference of some kind. There are a couple of possible solutions you can try: 1. Connect your Roku wired and be sure to change its networking to wired in its settings. Wired is always better than wireless. 2. Change your Router's wireless channel to 1 or 11. Consumer routers are very very bad at finding a clean channel. 1 and 11 (on the 2.5 ghz band) are usually pretty clean. You can also change to the 5ghz band as it usually is immune from most forms of interference. My suggestion is to use your Roku wired. That is what I do and I never have buffering issues. Of course your media could just be at too high a bitrate for the Roku also very large files cause problems. But to get detailed help you need to provide logs and details about your setup and exactly what you are doing and details about the file(s) involved. Edited October 9, 2020 by Gilgamesh_48 Typos
Luke 42083 Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Hi there, yes can we please look at an example? Please attach the emby server and ffmpeg log (if there was one). Thanks.
