Large Libraries - Constant Time Outs

But If one sees zero difference how can it run better?  In my case it would just be a placebo, correct?

The feature should be a system task that runs weekly honestly, why wouldnt you want to run it?  If it was enable and running and things ran better would you be happy?  Most things like optimization help everyone.

Except that is one additional point of possible failure. It is rarely a good idea to increase the places a system can fail unless it is justified by overall improved performance or reliability and the level of improvement must also offset the possible risk. I have a library larger than most and I see no performance problems at all.

Maybe it should be a system task BUT it should be defaulted to off and those that want it can turn it on. Actually it would be better as a plugin that can be installed or not as desired.

If I see 0 difference in you giving me 100$ because I make more does it mean I dont want 100$?  Or anti lock breaks, or seat belts or pick anything you want lol.  How do you know you wont see a difference you said you havent run it :P.  So lets stop being stupid.

When someone reduces their arguments to name calling they indicate that they have no real point. I did NOT say it should be available I said I do not want it and I believe it should be optional. Why would anyone object to that?

BTW: Your analogies are specious at best. They do not relate at all to the discussion.

Read the post above yours.  Whos name calling?  Its stupid to be debating if the feature from 2yrs ago should be in the UI or not.  Again other comparable platforms like Plex have this built in.

I see no name calling but yours. However Mark Twain was right when he said, ""Never argue with a stupid person. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience" so I'm out of here.

This will make no difference on 99.9% of systems so adding complexity is not worth it.  Those that need it with LARGE libraries will surely have a better understanding of the environment and can change a setting from false to true after doing lots of database changes.  Typically once your library is big and you don't keep removing/adding things you won't need to run this either.

come on man - just because you have a large library does not relate to understanding of how a db works or how PC's work or emby..... :) - if it works at an expectable speed nobody will investigate it etc

this thread is proof of this

(Ladies understand this better than most :) )

Hi, the server log you provided doesn't contain any examples of slow responses. Can you please supply the server log from the time frame in which the problem was experienced? Thanks.

Not sure it will reduce that much, but at least you'll know how to do it for the future.

..and as always, shutdown emby and then take a copy of the file before doing it.  There is always a risk when doing system optimisations.

If you want to vacuum, instructions are here:

I seem to remember  a vacuum option you can set in one of the system xml file. But I don't remember where it is off hand.

I think the "scan media library" schedule task handles it. I could most certainly be wrong though.
