Are there any plans to add the option to transcode music, so that the "Internet streaming bitrate limit" option affects music too?

Some clients have separate audio quality settings (I just checked the Android client which does, but the web client doesn't) in their playback settings section.  Although it's not global, would this help for you?

Does that really affect music playback, whatever settings I choose Emby control pannel still say "direct playing"

I would like a bit less bandwidth being used when playing music on my cellphone since all my music is in flac-format.

Hmm; I admit I've never tested it myself; even Flac is typically well under 1mbps, so it's never occurred to me to limit it further, even when listening through my phone when walking the dogs.

So I tested it just now, and you're right - playing audio files appears not to transcode to meet the selected quality setting.  But in fact a transcode log has been generated, and contains the settings which I requested, so transcoding has actually taken place as required.

The problem is that the dashboard only reports video transcoding, it being considered that when playing video files audio transcoding is a trivial concern in comparison (I and some others feel that both should be reported, but that discussion has happened ad nauseam elsewhere, and we've lost).  However, in the case that only audio is being played, the arguments for it not being displayed on the dashboard (that it would make the display too complex) are no longer valid - so perhaps this case should be handled separately. @Luke

Yeah, you're right.

I also see in my transcode log tah the files actuall are being played back at 128kbps instead of the origial flac bitrate.

Just a bit confusing that the dashboard not showing it as being transcoded

Yes it already does.

We found that by testing.  The only issue is that the dashboard reports this as Direct Playing, which clearly it is not.

To me an Admin dashboard the "lies" to you about what it's doing is less than helpful. When you click the "i" icon it now goes to a full page so all kinds of information about the media can be shown. Anything shown in SFN could easily be shown on this page along with reasons things are being converted.

Dashboard should be the goto place to get accurate info since it's the only place an admin can usually look short of analyzing log files.

Yes, it would be nice if the transcoding was reported at the dashboard.

What Emby app are you playing with?

I'm mostly using the regular Empy app for Android for music playback.

Hmm, the .apk- file fails to open after downloading. Also it feel like it not really downloading, it takes like one second which seems about too fast for a 30mb file.

Sounds like the download didn't succeed then for some reason.

Now I got version 3.1.41working, I had to download it to a pc first and the install that fil on my phone.

But I'm not really sure what a different app version is supposed to solve, the server dashboard still shows "Direct playing" when playin music files, but according to the ffmpeg-transcode... log file the file is infact transcoded.

How does the web app compare?

When using the web app there is no transcoding performed according to log-files, and the dashboard is saying "Direct playing"

Ok thanks for the info. We'll take a look at it.
