faycee 0 Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 Hey all, I'm trying emby out to see if its a better solution to use .strm files as most of my content is now on gdrive and plex has no support for them whilst kodi is too unstable and seems to be a slow on android devices. I've managed to scan the directory with some strm files and it seems like kodi has picked up the meta data effectively but it doesnt want to play the media. it just seems to load endlessly. Is there something i'm missing? I've used the strm files i've exported from an android device and they all seem to play with kodi.
Luke 42081 Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 Hi there, is this question about Kodi or Emby? Emby supports strm files.

Not too sure what happened there but my response got deleted. This question is about Emby and i'm aware it supports strm files as thats the main motive behind installing it today. The meta info seems to populate but doesnt actually play back the media i just get a loading symbol. Can i use exported strm files i've done through kodi? or is there a specific method i use to export strm files with emby?
Luke 42081 Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 Have you compared your strm files to what we support? https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159147-strm-files 1

Luke 42081 Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 I think a community member may have built a tool for this, but apologies I don't know what it's called.
Carlo 4561 Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 @faycee If I were you I'd look into and try Rclone instead of strm files for this purpose. With that said you can't have "plugin" in the URL line of the strm file as it's not valid for Emby. If you want to see strm in action try this. Create a folder in your movie library "Boy in the Plastic Bubble, The (1976)" Inside this folder create an strm named "Boy in the Plastic Bubble, The (1976).strm" edit that file and put this one line in the strm file https://archive.org/download/The_Boy_In_The_Plastic_Bubble/The_Boy_In_The_Plastic_Bubble.mp4 Scan your movie library and it should have added this movie. Try playing it. Does it work for you? It should and that shows you exactly how strm files should be setup and what the contents of the strm should look like. You should be able to take the contents of the strm file like I posted above and paste it in a web browser and be able to download the file. If you can't do that with any link it won't work in Emby.

Hey bud, I do already have Rclone set up and have been using with plex for a good while now but as i've mentioned this method doesn't help when you have a restricted upload capacity. The naming convention which i've been using is as you've stated above Movies > movie name (year) > Movie name (year).strm Whilst some of the media is seperated with 'fullstops' like: movies > movie.name.year>movie.name.year.strm i have cross checked both and its the same result. My question now is, how can i generate .strm files with the correct path to google drive?
