GiGo 108 Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 Just noticed while watching somthing that needed subtitles that the subtitles do not show up on the playback window but rather in the webpage. Windows 10 running Chrome, emby 3.5.1.0 on Synology NAS. Just wondering if it's a bug or something that has been overlooked?

Not entirly sure, file is a mkv, no separate subtitle file, this is what emby says when I select the subtitle. This is what I see, obviously with a the video in a box overlayed (I captured the visable tab) If you need logs or anything let me know.
Luke 42078 Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 Ok we'll take a look but in chrome, the browser video player handles rendering subtitles for us, so there may not be much we can do about it.

Yes it's Chrome. It's not the biggest issue in the world, but wasn't sure if it was a bug or an oversight.

Firefox 134.0 (64-bit) Emby 4.8.10.0 srt subtitle Yea it's rendering on the original screen due to our use of custom subtitle rendering. This is where things get a little trickier because we have to use the custom subtitle rendering in order to accommodate all of Emby's features, but that doesn't work as well with PiP. We'll have to look at what our options are there. Thanks.
ryanzb111 4 Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 (edited) Subtitles in PiP mode would be nice. Maybe a toggle in options between custom subtitle rendering and PiP-compatible rendering? Also, will burning-in subtitles with the video stream help? Is that an option I can use right now? Edited February 14, 2025 by ryanzb111 add more detail
diabolicalangle 0 Posted March 14, 2025 Posted March 14, 2025 Agreed! Subtitles in PiP would be great, even if it's an option to do so, and drop custom subtitle to the default
