Recordings ending early

Deja-vu with streams dropping early in a recording. Look at log time stamp 2020-09-23 18:14:23.334.

This is an HLS stream and was even worse when I ran it on a TrueNAS server. Now I moved it to a Win10 computer that only runs Emby. There was a small glitch at the time because I was actually watching it. No buffering, just jumped frames for one second at the same time it stopped recording. Obviously Emby cannot handle that in an HLS stream. I setup this computer yesterday with 4.5.0.50.

The same show was recording on my main Emby server and was fine, but that was a TS stream. Not sure if that glitched the same way as the other stream. Haven't had many issues with TS streams, but I remember in the past having to switch to TS from HLS because of similar issues happening very frequently. Are there still issues with HLS streams? Should I avoid them? I think I will move these streams to NPVR and see how they get handled over there.

The log does not show any indication of an issue. Just sees the program as ended.

Hi, and the ffmpeg recording log?

Can you try using mpegts output instead of hls?

That IPTV provider does not have that option, HLS only. I switched to a different provider that has ts, and it works fine. I know HLS segments a stream so it does need to be handled differently.

Yes we run hls through ffmpeg to piece it back together. Eventually we're going to replace this with our own code to handle it so that we can make it a little more resilient at handling interruptions.

Great, I will just avoid HLS for now. Problem is though, more and more IPTV providers are going HLS only. Emby users should make note of this when selecting a provider. I moved the HLS only steams to NextPVR where it still happens but a lot less. Maybe 1 out of 20 recordings where Emby was around 18 out of 20 early ending recordings.
