glengrant 8 Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 (edited) Good Evening asking support 'cause of my father.. old man, hard of hearing, problems in handlings properly the remotes .. I try to explain the problem : on emby, under Subtitles for his profile I have: preferred language Italian always show subtitles other option were "default" so it should play the subtitles marked as default ; "smart" where a subtitle is activated automatically for example if I'm watching a movie in an other language different than mine (right?) ; "forced" and "no subtitles" So, I took this movie (mkv) with the following tracks & tags for the subtitles: 1. subtitles ita forced 2. subtitles ita 3. subtitles eng Choosing "always show the subtitles" I'd expect to have ==> 2. subtitles ita because my language is italian and I didn't select "show me the forced one" BUT: if the Forced subtitles have been set on the mkv as forced and as default emby will take the forced subtitles Is it a bug or is there a reason behind this ? is there a way to override the tags of a mkv with emby ? Thanks g. Edited September 20, 2020 by glengrant .
Luke 42083 Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 You probably want to select the smart option.
glengrant 8 Posted September 21, 2020 Author Posted September 21, 2020 nothing.. tried with a different file with the same configuration. a mkv where a forced sub has been set as default Emby recognizes that there are 2 subtitles of the same language : one is forced and tagged as default, then a second sub (full sub in this case). Even if I set "default", "forced only" or "smart" or "always" in a profile on the server, emby prefer the forced sub because they are in my language and they have the default tag. Not possibile to get automatically shown the other sub. Multiple subtitles in foreign languages usually means that one is the forced (and we have a tag in this case), the other is the full translation (or the hard of hearing version). I don't understand why the "always show subtitles" is not able to override a forced sub (if tagged as default) if the container has an other sub with the same language. Could it be something to implement? thanks for your help g.
Luke 42083 Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 We'll look at improving it. Thanks for the feedback.
glengrant 8 Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 thanks, appreciated. I will try give help in the italian subforum to support the project in my own way (i have already a lifetime premiere sub)
