Stew52 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Hello I'm having an issue I can't seem to solve. I have setup my server on windows we purchased emby premire in my hudband name, we are both setup on the server as users but can't seem to get on the server away from home on our cellphones. However, we can connect to the server on cellphones as long as we are connected to our network while in the house but not on data plan. What am I missing here to allow us to connect away from home? We both have emby connect accounts and I can connect to a friends server on any device but not my own. Please help
pwhodges 2012 Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 External connections to a network have to be set up and enabled. The Emby connectivity support page tells you all about this. When you are at home your phones are connecting to your wifi and hence are local, not external. Emby Connect is poorly named - it doesn't provide a connection, but is a way of looking up connections (and it can easily been done without). Paul
Stew52 0 Posted September 15, 2020 Author Posted September 15, 2020 Hi No I'm still at my wits end trying to figure this out. We tried to port forward on router but still is unable to use outside the home. Also when I have my vpn on Emby is not accessible on my network. But vpn turned off I have no issues as long as I'm at home. So confused! I've read so many articles and nothing I do works.
Carlo 4561 Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Hi, VPN changes your external IP so with that running you'll have ZERO chance or connecting remotely unless you have setup Emby to work through a public VPN which requires port passthrough by your VPN provider. So you MUST turn off VPN (for now) to get Emby working remotely. When you look at your router's EXTERNAL or WAN IP Address does that match what Emby shows for the remote IP? Can you see your 8096 port being open from canyouseeme?
pwhodges 2012 Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 And does the router's External/WAN address match the one which you get from whatismyip.com (or similar) - this is to check whether you're behind cg-NAT (that's another layer of NAT within your ISP). Paul 1
Carlo 4561 Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Yep, if your wan IP, Emby Remote IP and whatismyip or canyouseeme don't match there is a strong indication that you are behind a NAT and normal INBOUND internet can't make it to you without some type of "tunnel" established.
