Anyone set up whole house audio with Emby?

I'm working on a house design and I plan on setting up whole house audio in it with 12 zones.  Any source can be played in any zone.  I was trying to think of a good way to make my music library available to all 12 zones.  I currently use itunes and a 3 zone receiver.  The main issue is that itunes is a single source and cannot play multiple files at once, so the audio on the 3 zones will match.

I was thinking of making an emby client active in each zone, be it an ipad or whatever.  This would allow 12 sources to all be playing different things at once, including video distribution as well.  Any user could just log onto their profile and play their stuff in any zone.

Has anyone tried anything like this or done something similar?

not tried this - just an initial thought

but you have the cast option/ play to - so if the clients were named by zone - then this could work

 

OT not sure i would want 12 different songs playing at the same time in my house

Hmmm... that could be an option.

I don't want to stream 12 different songs at once, i just want to be able to
