I have that as well but much prefer using Teamviewer as it provides more information for me to use and adapts to different screen resolutions much better.  It has both voice and chat facility built in as well that just works better IMHO.

It shouldn't be this hard.  I used to run an infrastructure in AWS with websites, SQL Servers, FTP sites all with forwarding and firewall ports opened.  The trick is to make the changes in both the AWS setup and on the machine itself.
