moshmont 8 Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 If I have an m3u link that is just movies, is it possible to show them in a separate library rather than in with the live tv channels? Thanks!
ebr 16185 Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 HI. Not directly at this time. You could do this with strm files and, I believe, someone wrote a utility a while back to take an m3u and generate strm files from it. Check out our community contribution utilities section.
Carlo 4561 Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Hi, Yes, maybe. You would create an STRM file for each entry in the M3U file which is what I've done. Here's a link to how to use strm files from our knowledge base: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159147-strm-files Is this a static list or will the M3U file be changing often?
moshmont 8 Posted September 6, 2020 Author Posted September 6, 2020 I assume it can change, it is a movie m3u url from an IPTV provider. But I would be ok with updating it myself now and then. If it changes, like if they add movies, would it be typical for the original .STRM files to still work as long as the movie hasn't been removed by the provider?
Carlo 4561 Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Yes as long as the movies stays at the URL you used to create the strm files the movie would still play. 1

Thanks! I'm doing this with a Powershell script I made as a proof of concept. It cleans up removed links and make folder structures for series and movies. But I think it will not be worth to share since it may only fit to my Playlist format. There should also exist a bash script M3u-to-strm out there. Regards. Edited September 17, 2020 by Blob
Carlo 4561 Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 I use a python script to do the same for both movies and tv shows.
