moshmont 8 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 When I'm in the guide for Live TV, I only see icons for each channel, so for instance, all the CBS stations look exactly alike and I can't tell which is which. Is there anyway to have both icon and text, or even just text would be better. Using Windows 10, Emby 4.4.3.0, Apollo Group TV Also, there are blank channels, with nothing showing in any cell. Is there a way to not show blank rows in the Guide? Thanks!
Carlo 4561 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Hi, Different clients display this info differently. Some use text, some icons and some both. It would be nice to have both in all clients or have it configurable but each client has different requirements on space. To get rid of blank channels the best things is to remove those channels from your M3U file. Running your M3U files through xTeVe is a great way to do this as it can be done in real-time which allows your M3U files to be pulled each day to keep the streams up to date. The new version of Live TV in development will handle this differently and xTeVe won't be needed. You can also use TAGGING in Emby and add a TAG to each blank channel like "NoShow" or "Hide" or something like that. Then you use the parental filtering feature built into Emby to hide all things with that tag. Hope this helps
moshmont 8 Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 Thanks cayars. So just to be sure, you are saying that Emby Guide does not show both as a choice due to space requirements? Is there a way to force the use of the text instead? I will take a look at xTeVe to remove blank channels. Thanks!
Carlo 4561 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 I didn't design the different UIs for Live TV on the apps so I can't say for sure, but my guess is that spacing is likely part of it. Personally I want to see a channel number and logo even if that takes up more room. I know my guide by # so when I just see icons I'm sometimes lost. I also have different CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX channels from different markets and know then by number but the icon in meaningless. Yes xTeVe is great but may take a few minutes to get the hang of how it works and filters.
Luke 42080 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 More options to control this are possible for the future. Thanks for the feedback.
moshmont 8 Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 Thanks for the xTeVe suggestion. I have that working now. It got rid of blank channels and I was able to limit the number of channels and it loads much faster now. I think Emby will be great once the Guide is closer to how Tivimate works. Just need to be able to see groups and channel names. 1
Carlo 4561 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 You will like "Next Gen Live TV" based on what you just said.
moshmont 8 Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 What is "Next Gen Live TV"? Hopefully an upcoming Emby release?

It's the Next Generation Live TV/DVR that's been mentioned a bit on the forums. It's a replacement for current Live TV that is in active development and testing. 1
moshmont 8 Posted September 21, 2020 Author Posted September 21, 2020 (edited) So is there anyway to participate in the ongoing testing of the "Next Gen TV" version? After using Emby for a couple months now, I love it because I can even use my Roku's in my bedroom and downstairs (which I will probably replace at some point once I have everything settled). Live TV is great within the actual viewer but quite annoying when trying to navigate, channel surfing or keep track of a few different shows. I still always have to start off with Tivimate where things are laid out so intuitively and they have history, multi-screen, etc, and when I finally know what I want to watch for awhile, I'll switch over to Emby where I can rewind and FF. If there is a Next Gen, I'd love to help test it out if its being tested on Windows server and fire stick, or even just Windows server and client. Edited September 21, 2020 by moshmont
Carlo 4561 Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Current no, as it's more "unit testing" of specific parts of Live TV. Currently focused mainly around all the setup screens and flow in the GUI of all the new functionality. In the near future when it hits alpha/beta more users will be brought in to test or it will be open testing or similar. I too have and use Tivimate especially for NFL football use with it's multi-view but other than that don't use it otherwise. I don't even have a guide loaded in it but refer back to Emby for that info.
