sross44 431 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I know this has been talked about but information seems to be scarce so I’m writing here and hoping I’m in the right place as my Emby server is on Windows. I’m trying to make the switch from Plex to Emby and the one feature that is missing that everyone in my household loves is the trailers in Plex. We have an extensive media library and everyone likes to watch a trailer before choosing what movie they want to watch. We have 4k Apple TV’s everywhere in the house so running the trailer plugin doesn’t help as the ATV app doesn’t have support for youtube trailers. Is there a program out there that will sift through my media collection and download the correct trailer for the movie(s)? Any information someone has that could point me in the right direction. This is the one thing that really is keeping me from leaving Plex in the dust and moving forward with Emby!
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 It is not free but we have the YTrailers plugin that will use the youtube url provided by TMDB to get that trailer. http://www.ballingtons.com/products/ Depending on your OS there is a script here. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/59029-linux-script-download-yt-trailers-from-nfo-to-local-movie-folder/
sross44 431 Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 Thanks for the info on YTrailers....will this download all the trailers to my folders? Also, how do I install it on to Emby? Sorry.... total new emby user here.
sross44 431 Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 Actually I figured out how to install it.... just purchased it and waiting on the license!! Looking forward to seeing if this works for me.
Carlo 4561 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 If you want to D/L trailers outside of Emby Tiny Media Manager works pretty well. You can script it as well and run it from the command line. This is useful if you like to prepare media outside of Emby before adding it. I've been thinking of another approach I might automate. Apple has a ton of trailers in HD then can be directly downloaded if you know how. I'm not so concerned with downloading them but using the D/L location in STRM files. This way Emby has access to the trailers I want it to have and won't use Youtube trailers so everything plays through Emby directly and works on all the clients. These would be available to use in Cinema mode as well. This way "custom trailers" without giving up the space to host them.
sross44 431 Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 That setup would be awesome! Way out of my technical know how but am more than happy to help you test it! Actually from a tech perspective I may be able to help if you really need it. Would love to be kept apprised of this if you did it.
Carlo 4561 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 (edited) I was about to come back and edit the previous post. Besides just creating the STRM file for the trailer you could also easily create STRM files for other extras as well. They would be simple text/strm files so no storage space issues but would add some nice content to the movie section. So for something like Maverick coming out in a few months instead of just having the trailer Trailer - https://movietrailers.apple.com/movies/paramount/top-gun-maverick/top-gun-maverick-trailer-1xzx_h1080p.mov Trailer 2 - https://movietrailers.apple.com/movies/paramount/top-gun-maverick/top-gun-maverick-trailer-2_h1080p.mov you could have a couple or lots of extras such as Aviation Featurette- https://movietrailers.apple.com/movies/paramount/top-gun-maverick/top-gun-maverick-featurette-1_h1080p.mov Kick Spot - https://movietrailers.apple.com/movies/paramount/top-gun-maverick/top-gun-maverick-big-game-pre-kick-spot_h1080p.mov Things like that featurette, I dig especially for action movies. I love "inside" things like this. Finding locations for these types of things beyond just Apple would be a huge help if you're game. Edited September 3, 2020 by cayars
sross44 431 Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 I would definitely be game for it. We should definitely chat and connect

We should definitely chat and connect Start looking and PM me what you find. They basically need to be downloadable files like the above in order to use STRM files. The alternative is to download them which could still be done to get trailers and extras and this could include YouTube as well which can't be used in STRM files.
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 @cayars - is there a list of what available on Apple - or a way to search what they havevia an api etc?
sross44 431 Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 I’m going to start looking at putting a list together for us and will hit you up soon. Could definitely have something here!

I believe there is a API but I've not used it. How I found them/thought of using them as a source for strm files was from hd-trailers.net For example the couple trailers/extras I pulled for the above post came from here. http://www.hd-trailers.net/movie/top-gun-maverick/ hd-trailers.net isn't so great however. For example nothing for Top Gun (1986) nor Days of Thunder. boo I've thought of just downloading trailer/extras from Youtube, Yahoo or other places and putting them in a google account and use something like rclone (still using strm files) as the amount of usage would be small compared to movies/show storage. No searching other than using metadata info for these (if you download). I haven't figured out the best way to handle this yet but for now for movies I think will have good extras I just manually search Apple (or HD-trailers.net) and then create strm files manually for the extras. I do know another place to get these types of links but it would be immoral to share that info publicly and not something that could be done as a community project.

Glad you posted this... because I was going to share with you HD-trailers.net as a source. But looks like you beat me to it.
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 unfortunately hd-trailers does not have an api
Carlo 4561 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 No but when you have a mirror of the site you don't need it.
Carlo 4561 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 The problem with hd-trailers.net is that it was a great idea but done half-ass and doesn't really have that much info on it. It's "a" source of potential info but not a very good one. Finding the Apple trailer APIs would be a big step up. If this was to become something semi-official we couldn't do scraping or use questionable methods to retrieve data like I do personally.

Did a quick search and found this: https://github.com/kaizhu256/node-itunes-search-lite Also found a "demo" site using this but didn't see trailers. Haven't really played much as this was just 2 minutes of searching. https://kaizhu256.github.io/node-itunes-search-lite/build..beta..travis-ci.org/app/ iTunes Search API https://affiliate.itunes.apple.com/resources/documentation/itunes-store-web-service-search-api/ Edited September 3, 2020 by cayars
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 This looks a lot more promising https://www.traileraddict.com/ has an api as well
sross44 431 Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 Just now, PenkethBoy said: This looks a lot more promising https://www.traileraddict.com/ has an api as well We were just looking at that.... Doesn’t work cause you can’t really download the files. If you want, send me a private message and I can loop you in a little on what we’re looking for etc.
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 or something from here http://www.moreofit.com/similar-to/www.traileraddict.com/Top_10_Sites_Like_Traileraddict/
AxeMan 25 Posted February 18, 2021 Posted February 18, 2021 Hi - just wondering if you guys got anywhere with this - it would be awesome to have. I'd be willing to contribute to a bounty if there was one.

Carlo 4561 Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 I played around a bit with creating STRM files of trailers and extras but found things that work one month are broken a month later as the host your pointing to moves files, replaces or removes items. The conclusion I came to is that if you really like trailers and extras you really want to allocate storage for them and download them. Programs like Tiny Media Manager can already do this type of thing. 1

One downside for TV Shows, tho, as they can be named tvshow-trailer only, they have to be moved to a subfolder, batch-script works well enough there, I suppose FileBot would do as well. Edit: Actually, they HAVE to be moved, standard title-trailer naming scheme does not apply on TV Shows, Trailers subfolder is a must. TMM+script have been doin' that for years, completely forgot about it. @cayars Maybe wiki update to emphasize? Edited February 19, 2021 by GrimReaper76 Append 1
AxeMan 25 Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 I used to use MediaCenter Master, which used to do this pretty well too (almost a decade ago). As Emby matured, I stopped using it. I'll look into TMM. Thanks for the replies - hopefully someday Emby adds this as a metadata option. I get that it's not an easy thing.
