Messy indexing over 100+ episodes

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi. I have some TV shows (anime ones) which are more than 100 episodes (almost 300 as a matter of fact). My problem is that no matter how I try to index or rename them they will appear in the wrong order and under the wrong season. Episode 101 is identified as season 01, episode 01, and included in the wrong folder. Another example would be episode 149, indexed as season 01, episode 49. Another big problem is that the real 49 episode doesn't even. And a similar problem would have with 253, wrongly indexed as s02 episode 56.

How can I solve this. I have tried absolute, air and dvd order, super simple numbering 01, 02, ....280, the convention TV_Show_Name/ Season X/SxxExx, but nothing works. Placing all the files in the same folder didn't work either.

Sorry if the answer is somewhere in the forum. I couldn't locate it. I could only find the same topic in 2018 threads, but no solution was provided.

I'm running Emby on a Synology Nas.

Any solutions?

Hi,

Have you tried changing the format from Episode XXX to SXXEXX format?  That is almost always a better bet if you can use it.

A quick way often to rename things is FileBot.

I'm not Anime fan so don't have any experience to know how well (if at all) FileBot will do with them.

We would need a specific example as what you have done is the answer.  But without context we can only guess.  Your media is in the same order that is listed on TVDB correct?  What library metadata providers are enabled and in what order?

...the convention TV_Show_Name/ Season X/SxxExx,

I have no problem with anime over 100 episodes, of which I have a handful.  I follow the Emby naming guidelines as closely as I can and number shows according to the TVDB numbering (I do not use the Anime plugin to get extra metadata).  The format is just slightly different from yours, so perhaps you could try it:

 /Show_Name/Season nn/Show_Name snnenn

I don't normally bother to give the episode numbers up to 99 an initial leading zero, as I didn't find it necessary; but in the series I did, there was no change in behaviour.

FYI I just tested One Piece season 17, which has 118 episodes, without issue.  My naming was:

\TV\One Piece (1998)\Season 17\One Piece S17E01.mkv

through

\TV\One Piece (1998)\Season 17\One Piece S17E118.mkv

My problem is with Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super.

My indexing problems start on season 2 and onwards. Season 01 is usually ok. Example: I have DBZ with this naming convention:  Dragon Ball Z/ Season 02/Dragon Ball Z 140 - (title of episode). (140 being the episode)  I also tried naming episode as S02e140, but I found the same problem. I also use the identification option where I introduced the TMDB id. At some point I remember using the TVDB as well.

I'll give it a try at introducing the release year following Deathsquirrel has done.

Introducing an initial o often results in the episode being indexed as extra content.

Anyone who can tell me how they have name/organized the episodes in Dragon Ball, DBZ and DB Super? What folder distribution and data base have been used?

Unless I got it wrong DB is a single season, DBZ is 9 season and DBS is 5 season. I don't know if my folder distribution could be the cause.

Thanks.

If you literally copy the names from the metadata provider, then there can be little chance of mis-identification.

From the above - it appears the 'seasons' are actually split into multiple separately titled season 1's (only 1 season per year) - so that is likely your issue.  You need to split your seasons into the suitably named titles - which probably needs a bit of manual investigation/matching.

There is no such episode as there is only 35 episodes in season 2, so they need renamed accordingly per season.

If you want Absolute, you change Display order to Absolute and uses Season 1 folder with all episode and you can leave them with 1-314 but preferably S01E01-S01E314.

So which database is at the top of your list?  You need to be sure to match the primary database you're using.

Also, as Happy2Play said, you need to use the episode numbers to match the seasons.

I also tried absolute order also try to include all that shows in the same folder and used S01e01 up to S01e293.

May be problems with "e" of episode. Should it be E?

Must all season start with episode 01 when following the naming SxxExx. In my season 2 they start like S02e40. Could that be the problem?

My main database is TMDB. But I'll go over it again in case I missed something.

Yes as all seasons start with episode 1.

Pretty sure Display Order requires TVDB to be top priority.  So if you are using TMDB used Display order Aired and they need to be in Season folders with proper episode numbers according to TMDB.  Not sure if SAGA name is required for TMDB or not, but would suggest using season numbers.

That's correct. This feature is currently only implemented for TVDB.
