How does emby detect music files?

Does Emby scan the music files ID3-tags, or is it very picky with the folder structures?

For me Emby picks up only a fraction of all my music.

ok, I see.

I use the following naming:

\Music
    \Artist Name
       \Artist Name - Album Title
          1 - Song Title.mp3
          2 - Song Title.mp3

Is it because I use "\Artist Name - Album Title" it won't work?

i would reduce the album folder name to just the album name - as IIRC emby uses this in the lookup and you have it in the folder above so its redundant

Hi there, why do you feel Emby doesn't pick up your music? How are you determining that?

Well, for insance I have artists with over 100 albums, but Emby only picks up two or three albums, one example is Bob Dylan where I have 90 albums, but Emby  picks up only a few one of them.

This it what the folder for Bob Dylan looks like:

But this is what I get when I search for Bob Dylan in Emby:

The screenshot shows it all.  Single tracks in a Artist folder makes the Artist folder a Album.  So all other albums do not get recognized properly.  Since Emby is currently not 100% embedded metadata based you can not have single tracks in a Artist folder.

Ok, I see. That should be easy to fix. Thanks!

We plan to be able to accommodate this in future updates, we're just not there yet. Thanks for the feedback.
