Fish21 1 Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Hi, I have a two part question: - Can someone explain how Emby decides where it gets the metadata from? For some tv shows it seems to get it from TVDB while for other shows it gets it from IMDB. In both scenario's, the show has a link and external ID for both websites. So I don't get why it chooses the DB in a seemingly random way. - Many shows have the main tv show summary but do not have a summary for each episode. Only the title of each episode, release date and some other info. This is the case with shows that have a correct external ID. Why is that when on the DB it uses there is an individual summary for each episode listed? I have to copy/paste it manually for each epsiode which is obviously a hassle. Thanks
Carlo 4561 Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 (edited) Hi, Emby will pull the information from whatever metadata you have setup and in the order you setup in the library. Edit one of your libraries, turn on advanced options up top on the right side and scroll down through the options. You'll see a few different metadata providers that can be selected and reordered to your liking/needs. There might be other metadata providers available for you in the plugin catalog as well. Here's a couple of our knowledge base articles to get you in the right sections and give you a brief overview: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159319-library-setup https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001162214-plugins-overview Each Metadata provider will likely have different information compared to another provider. One provider may have data for individual episodes while another may not. You would want to explore the providers and look at the data they have for a couple of shows you presently have to see which is the best fit for your shows. Then try putting that metadata provider first in the list. I'd write down the "default" settings in case you don't like your changes and want to start over or fresh again. Never hurts to have default settings on hand. Let us know if you have additional questions or if this answered your question well enough for now until you explore more and learn how things work. jnelson522 0 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 New to Emby - I am seeing inaccuracies in the metadata that Emby imported. For example: one album (Beethoven's Mass in C Major, Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus) is listed in Emby as performed by Leonard Bernstein and the L.A. Philharmonic. MP3 file properties on all tracks of the album have the correct performer. I changed the musicbrainz id for album and artist; the metadata is unchanged. I went through each track of the album in Emby and changed the metadata for the artist and album artist (apparently there is no way to do that for all tracks in one operation) - and the changes did not "stick." I refreshed the metadata, and the incorrect information is still there. Any advice?
Carlo 4561 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Hi, Can you reproduce this on a test library (remove them from your main music library first)? I think this is a bug as I'm finding similar and this would be ideal testing material for debugging if in fact it happens in a test library.
Luke 42089 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Can you also please go over a specific example? Thanks.

I removed the library location and added it again to scan from scratch. I selected the TVDB as only one for searching metadata for episodes. It still does not give me the episode summary even though the TVDB does contain epsiode summaries. An example with this issue tvdb ID 83706. See below printscreens in order: tv show episode view, tv show metadata info, library settings Edited September 5, 2020 by Fish21
Carlo 4561 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 I just setup a test library with only this series in it and I get this using the same settings you had (as much as you showed). Have you checked your log file for errors?
Luke 42089 Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Yes please attach the emby server log from when you did that. Thanks.
