I was under the impression that you had already installed Emby before following the last instructions that I gave you.  If Emby was not installed when you issued those commands, you will need to go back and add the emby user to the pi group again, with this command.

sudo usermod -a -G pi emby

Then go back into Emby and you should be able to add the library.

I did what you said, did a reboot to be sure the settings were saved and than started emby by localhost:8096. Again username and password, than library and again: blanc

Okay that should have worked, but lets see if you can log in as the emby user and touch anything on the drive by running these commands:

sudo -u emby

cd /media/pi/kids

touch test_file.

Then run ls-l and paste the results here.

Sorry, I left out the shell because that did not log you in as the emby user.  Try this instead:

sudo -u emby bash

Now check to make sure that you are logged in as emby@raspberrypi, then do the next commands and post the output.

cd /media/pi/kids

 touch test_2

ls -l

what is the output of

groups emby

it also is pretty worthwhile for you to add an ssh server to your pi so you don't have to keep taking pictures of your monitor.....

Okay, that's telling you that emby does not have permission to access the hard drive.  Are you sure you did the command:  sudo usermod -a -G pi emby

Lets look at the results for this command:  groups emby

Also, if its at all possible please just copy and paste the terminal results into your posts, or use a screen capture program to post snapshots, because its pretty hard to read whats in the images.

Perfect.  The emby user is now added to the pi group and you should be good to go.  Now try going back to Emby and adding a library.

If there is still a problem, then lets try these commands again, to see if you can now touch anything on the drive from outside of Emby when logged in as the emby user.

sudo -u emby bash

cd /media/pi/kids

 touch test_2

The response to the cd  /media/pi/kids directory change has me a little confused.  I don't understand why it is showing:  bash: cd: /media/pi/kids......., but for whatever reason it is not changing to that directory.

Can you try exiting out of then reopening the terminal and running those commands again?

I'm sure mastermind11 would know the reason its showing the bash: response and how to get around it, but I'm still pretty new to Linux myself and that one has me scratching my head.We know that emby is now as member of the pi group, and we know that pi has read and write access to the kids drive, so emby should also have access to the drive.  I'm assuming that the reason for the access denied message has something to do with bash, I just don't know what

Lets try changing up the order to this:

sudo -u emby bash

 touch test_2

You can install openssh on your raspberry box, then install Putty on the machine you are using to access this forum and then you can access the raspberry terminal from that computer.

Instead of running the commands that I gave you, you can also just try adding the library in Emby, because we have verified that the emby user should now have access to the hard drive.

And still it remains blanc. I really cannot believe this. Do I use the wrong OS?

I don't think it has anything to do with the OS.  Would you mind creating a temporary account in Emby for me with admin privileges so I can log in and take a look?  If that's okay with you PM me the I.P address and username/password and I'll see if I can get it figured out for you.
