johnbil 3 Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 I was just asked to update my Emby Server when signing on last night. I now can't access my server by the apps on my Amazon Fire TV or my iPad. I can still call up my server on my PC's web browser. I have tried 'Waking the Server', 'Entering the Server Manually' and 'Logging in With Connect' with no luck. I have done a forced stop on my TV app and even reinstalled it. Any advice would be welcome. Regards, John
ebr 16184 Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Hi. Make sure that, when you updated, Windows didn't add any new rules to your firewall that could be blocking access. Also confirm that the IP address you are using is still the correct one. Please let us know how it goes. 1
johnbil 3 Posted August 31, 2020 Author Posted August 31, 2020 (edited) Still not working. Firewall disconnected. Copied IP info from Emby configuration (version 4.4.3.0). Tried manually entering address. No luck - Error connecting to Server. Any other suggestons? Edited August 31, 2020 by johnbil
johnbil 3 Posted August 31, 2020 Author Posted August 31, 2020 Any way to go back to a previous version??
Luke 42078 Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 What happens when you try to connect from the Ipad?
Luke 42078 Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Just now, johnbil said: As I said, neither one works. But what exactly happens in the app?
johnbil 3 Posted September 1, 2020 Author Posted September 1, 2020 I get an 'Unable to connect' message when I try it on my iPad. Just an FYI, I just removed and then reinstalled the Emby server on my Windows 7 PC. Still the same problem. Again, is it possible to go back to a previous version of Emby?
ebr 16184 Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Hi. The version is not the issue. There is something blocking at a network level or something is not configured properly. Can you access the web app on the same machine as the server? How about a different machine?

Hi, On that Windows 7 PC there is an Emby icon in the taskbar. Right click on the Emby icon and select "Browse Library". What happens?
johnbil 3 Posted September 1, 2020 Author Posted September 1, 2020 Forgive me, but let me rehash the details of my problem so everyone has all the available info in one place. I have been using an ‘Unlocked’ Emby app on my Amazon Fire TV (my main concern) and my iPad for some time with no problems. While using it on my TV the other day, it suggested an update and I did it. All my problems started the next day when I turned Emby on again. Although the server appears by name on both devices, it cannot be accessed or woken. I have also tried reconnecting manually. I have tried countless times. I have tried uninstalling the app on both devices and reinstalling them fresh. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the server on my Windows 7 SP1 PC (now v4.4.3.0). When I click on the PC’s Emby icon, I can browse and use the library with no problem. I can also call up the server on the PC’s browser (http://localhost:8096/web/index.html#!/home.html). I can’t access Emby by browsers on other devices both on my wireless network or off. I tried both LAN and WAN addresses. My firewall shows the port is open. It is also disconnected. The reason I asked about previous Emby versions is that it seems extremely strange that everything was fine before the new version was installed. There were no changes to my PC or home network. I have also installed Plex as a test and it works fine. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
Carlo 4561 Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 If Emby works fine on the server itself but you can't get to it from another computer on the network there is something blocking it. This is most likely going to be a firewall, anti-virus or some other security software which could include a browser addin.
johnbil 3 Posted September 1, 2020 Author Posted September 1, 2020 (edited) I show that my Windows Firewall is OFF. I have gotten no notifications from my virus program about Emby and there are security add-ons on the browsers that I've used. How would a browser add-on effect the app? If this is now a problem with the server, how do I correct it? Is there a file that I could send along which would help diagnose the problem? Edited September 1, 2020 by johnbil
Carlo 4561 Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Anything with the ability to stop traffic is a point of contention that needs to be rules out. So for example turn off any browser addins like this. Turn off any security software on the PC or router for testing. Just write down what you turn off so after testing you can turn things back on. Basically from a diagnostic standpoint you want to remove anything that can possibly cause an issue like this.
johnbil 3 Posted September 2, 2020 Author Posted September 2, 2020 Firewall & Ant-Virus off. No browser add-ins. Still nothing.

Was hoping it was something simple like that. We've covered all the basics I believe and I know this is frustrating. Would you be up for a remote support session? I can take a look with you and see if I spot anything that might be causing you an issue. Send me a PM if you would like to do this. If not we can surely continue here. Carlo
multinyinya 0 Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 I had a very similar case on my samsung TV. Try to remove the lan cable from the TV or turn off the Wifi in your TV. Then once you try to acces the Emby again, it should popup with logging in to your server as your user. It solved my case.
ebr 16184 Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Hi. Turning the firewall off in Windows does not completely open up your network. Turn it back on and make sure you have appropriate rules in place for the server application (and no blocking rules).
johnbil 3 Posted September 2, 2020 Author Posted September 2, 2020 Firstly, let me thank you all for your time and help. I have reinstalled the Amazon for TV app and my PC's Emby server yet again. I unplugged my TV and my PC router as suggested. As far as I can tell, my Firewall is still off. I have attached a screen print and a spreadsheet of the firewall rules. I have not made any changes to it. The problem continues! FirewallRules.xlsx
ebr 16184 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Hi. Turn it back on and make sure proper rules are in place. It is also possible it is some other software on the network that is blocking but it definitely sounds like something is blocking. Have you looked in your server log to see if maybe all network communications are blocked?
johnbil 3 Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 Sorry, but I'm not too versed in log files and the like. Is there a specific file that I can post? Again, there were no changes on the PC or TV side except for Emby.
Carlo 4561 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 (edited) Hi, You can access your server log right from the webadmin. Click on Logs (under Advanced menu) on the left and it should be the top entry "embyserver.txt". Off to the right of that is an icon to download the log. Download it and then upload it here for ebr. Carlo 4561 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Here is a knowledge base article on Log files which might be of help to you. https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159337-log-files
iamanoffering 1 Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 (edited) I'm having this exact same problem. Was able to get a machine to use as a dedicated server - set things up and everything connected beautifully (TV, Android, iPad). A few days later with what seemed to be no changes anywhere and nothing connects anymore. I've tried messing with firewall exceptions/rules as well to no avail. Following to see if this problem is the same as mine. Get this error: We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again. However, I know for a fact it is running. Edited September 7, 2020 by iamanoffering
