Chris Jones 14 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 (edited) I recently found the media browser project and have to say it's brilliant (was a plex user but it is far too limited and closed). However i'm having a problem with TV Shows. I did have all of my movies and tv shows saved with nfo files (scraped with MediaElch) but when i added tv shows media browser it detected a lot of the season XX folders as the tv show themselves, so i end up with a ton of tv series such as "digimon adventure 02" even though it is actually "Bewitched\Season 02". Media browser puts a tvshow.nfo file in the season folder. it has done it with several seasons for each tv show i have, but strangely not all of them. To fix this i removed the tv shows from MB3, deleted all my images/nfo files from the tv shows completely, readded it to MB3 and it managed to scrape everything perfectly. At somepoint between then and now, it has gone back to the messed up state again. The only thing i'm aware of doing is playing with some user preferences and creating a new user though i'm not sure if that is the cause. Are there any more diagnostics i can get to help with this? or anything that i should be doing to stop it from doing this? For more detail, i have a tv folder, in that are folders for each tv show, such as "Bewitched", "The Laurel and Hardy Show" etc. inside those are "Season 01", "Season 02" folders with the episodes inside labeled as "S01E01 Episode name.mkv". Something is causing MB3 to think that the top level folders are just folders and the season folders are the show name. Some of the laurel and hardy seasons are now shown as a tv show called "Season 01". Thanks in advance. (p.s. I'm a software developer and would love to contribute to this project, is there any information on doing so?) Edit: I'm running MB3 Version 3.0.5309.26857 Edited July 19, 2014 by Chris Jones
Luke 42078 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 can you show us what the tv list, series and season folders look like in your file explorer, with screenshots? thanks.
Chris Jones 14 Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 Thank you for the fast response. I've attached some screenshots of the TV folder, the red dwarf and Laurel and Hardy show folders and some of the broken season folders as well as screenshots of the metadata view in MB3 and shows view. As you can see the red dwarf seasons that are broken have a tvshow.nfo file in the season folders. I just remembered that i also added the trakt plugin before it broke (in case that makes a difference). Let me know if i've missed anything or you need any more details. Thanks again.
Luke 42078 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Thanks. I will do some testing with similar names and report back. To be honest everything looks normal in your folders. Only thing i can think of is that maybe we haven't handled episode file names as just "s01e01 - name", instead of the usual "show name s01e01 episode name". so i'll have to try that out.
Chris Jones 14 Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 Does MB3 generate any log files that could help diagnose the issue? (I noticed an enable debug logging option). I could always clear it all out again and get it to scrape it all from scratch as well. Thanks
ebr 16184 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Log files are explained here: How to report a problem What kind of development are you interested in?

Luke 42078 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Ah yes, I missed that part. We are always looking for new contributors
Luke 42078 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 It definitely should be fine, although it's worth a test since everything else looks normal.
Luke 42078 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 just as a test, can you try deleting the extrathumbs folder and then running a library scan?
Chris Jones 14 Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 I deleted the extrathumbs folder and that seems to have fixed the problem!
Solution Luke 42078 Posted July 19, 2014 Solution Posted July 19, 2014 awesome, it's not actually the extrathumbs folder, it's the presence of three or more non-season folders that are causing us to think it's not a tv series. so obviously we need to ignore extrafanart/thumbs + the .actors folder when making that calculation. so that will be fixed for the next release. in the meantime if you go to metadata -> xbmc you can turn off the extrathumbs duplication to avoid it from popping up again 1
Chris Jones 14 Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 Thank you for extremely quick response and solution to this. As for contributing to the project, my set up is MB3 on my home server and an intel nuc running openelec with XBMB3C. I'm currently interested in helping with the server and in improving the experience on XBMC. Do you have links about contributing to this project, such as the process or bugs/features that are to be fixed/implemented? Basically the best place for me to start helping you guys out.

Chris Jones 14 Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 I might have just missed the right options for these but the two main issues i found whilst trying to configure a skin when i installed openelec today with my fiancee is: When viewing the movies, it doesn't put the movies that are in collections in those collections, so for example all of the die hard films are separate, to view them in a collection you have to go to the movie set view but that only shows the collections. I noticed an option in the user preferences in MB3 that seemed related but it didn't seem to have any effect (Aeon MQ5 XBMB3C Gotham) When you view TV shows, you can choose a view such as "Right List", then when you click on a series, it starts off as the default "Wide" view, you change it to "Right List" then click on the series, it starts it in "Wide" again. it remembers these options per show and per series, so if i then go to red dwarf, that is in "Wide" view.
Luke 42078 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Ok, for the first, there is a user profile setting on the server to determine that. Click the user icon in the top right -> my preferences. @@xnappo can confirm whether or not Xbmc is explicitly disabling it despite that, and he can also comment on the second issue. He might also have ideas for areas you can contribute. What languages are you comfortable with?
Chris Jones 14 Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 There is a "display a collections view to show movie collections" and a "Group movies into collections". Both of these are checked and when i tried it earlier it didn't seem to do anything. I can experiment with this a bit more tomorrow. My day job is primarily C# / MS SQL but I have experience with C++ as well. We use .net 2 -> 4.5, WPF, WCF and i have a small amount of experience with ASP.net (web isn't my strongest area but i am interested in learning).

Looks like we are using an ancient way to get all movies, I will fix that. 2. Assuming you are using our repo and one of our skins, you should be able to set the default views by browsing to Addons->XBMB3C->Set Default Views. This is a 'directory' NOT a setting. We are adding it as a skin setting shortly. Someone please fork this thread to the XBMB3C forum.. [EDIT] Luke - what is the correct movies call? We are doing a recursives Item query with includeitemtypes=movies. xnappo Edited July 19, 2014 by xnappo
Luke 42078 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 That should be fine. here's what the movies page in the web client does https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser/blob/master/MediaBrowser.WebDashboard/dashboard-ui/scripts/movies.js#L6
xnappo 1611 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I see the problem - after changing the server setting, you need to right-click and manually do a refresh - otherwise you are going to get the cached version. Our cache flush detection can't tell the difference with this setting. xnappo
Chris Jones 14 Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 Refreshing the movie view worked, thanks. However i can't seem to find the Addons->XBMB3C->Set Default Views setting that you mentioned. I may be running an old version of the addon? I downloaded the zip file from this link: http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/7194-xbmb3c-gotham-repo/
xnappo 1611 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 (edited) You have to be running a skin that supports it - what skin are you using? To be clear it should be here: screenshot009 by xnappo, on Flickr This is not intuitive, we are adding it as a skin setting shortly. It is easy to add to another skin if needed. xnappo Edited July 20, 2014 by xnappo
Chris Jones 14 Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 From that zip file it is the Aeon MQ5 skin for XBMB3C. When i get some time i'll have another look for that option. Thanks for the screenshot.
Chris Jones 14 Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 I found the default views option and works great. Thanks 1
xnappo 1611 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Great - as I mentioned we will be providing a link to there from the Skin settings in the future to make it easier to find. xnappo
