starisme 5 Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Just started using Emby and I noticed that for a couple of series I had, Emby was confusing the year in the title of the show with the season and episode despite having SXXEXX in the filename. I don't recall this issue with Plex and was wondering if there is a different nuance I'm missing. This is primarily with shows that have years in their name such as: Legend.of.the.Condor.Heroes.1994.S01E01.mkv or Return.of.the.Condor.Heroes.S01E01.2006.mkv. It assigns the season as 19 and episode as 94 for all episodes or season 20 and episode 6.
pwhodges 2013 Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 (edited) First off, I'd put the year in parentheses. Do you have the episodes in a folder with the same name, such that the episodes have the same name plus the season/ep info? Ideally with a season folder in between? That gives Emby the most help in getting it right. E.g.: \Show (year)\Season 1\Show (year) s01e07.mkv The full guide to naming TV shows for best results is here. starisme 5 Posted August 25, 2020 Author Posted August 25, 2020 (edited) Thanks for the insight. I did try putting them in a Season subfolder and that helped with assigning the Season correctly but it doesn't help with the episode number. Also I went through the TV naming article but that doesn't help for these specific shows where the show title contains a year or number and it isn't merely for denoting the year. Is this just something that Emby doesn't account for? Edited August 25, 2020 by starisme

But I had no issue with this

I just tested and, with your naming, there were problems but when the series is named correctly ""The Legend of the Condor Heroes 1994 - S01E01.mkv" (note no periods and the dash after the series name) Emby had zero problems. Emby tries very hard to make a match but it parses filenames is a very specific way and the placement of delimiters like the dash "-" is very important to helping Emby get it right.
starisme 5 Posted August 25, 2020 Author Posted August 25, 2020 Thanks everyone for looking into this! I guess I had set up different from @Happy2Play's example. It was 射雕英雄傳 The Legend of the Condor Heroes 1994 > Season 01 > The.Legend.of.the.Condor.Heroes.1994.S01E01.mkv. I didn't bother renaming the filenames because its a large media collection and it was fine in Plex or Videostation. Also thanks @Gilgamesh_48 for letting me know about the dash. I guess I didn't have multiple versions so I skipped over that section in the article. It was just something I noticed crop up with a portion of shows and I assumed if SXXEXX was present then the correct season and episode would be extracted.
