roku playback issues

In the last 4 years ive not had any issues to speak of with emby. suddenly how ever i am having issues where the movie will freeze for a second then resume playing, but the audio will then be out of sync. a few seconds will go by then the sound will mute for a few seconds. when it resumes it will be back in sync again. This issue only seems to happen when playing on roku tv (all 3 of them) but it seems to be more of an issue on one of them more so than the others. Haven't noticed it on the pc, but i don't often watch a lot on the pc. this was not a problem until i updated the server to 4.4.3.0. I thought it might have been an issue with a bad video file at first , but then it started doing it with files that have never had a issue. also these same files don't have any issue if i play them back on vlc or windows media player. and one other issue that's been going on for a while that may or may not be related. theme songs for both tv and movies when on the roku will often give me a malformed data error, or have a loud annoying click and pop in the sound .... but not on pc emby. and ive run the mp3s through software that checks for corruption and they were good. even tried re-downloading them and still had the issue. Im not even sure where to begin on trouble shooting this any further.

I think i solved part of the issue. I noticed that the video files that were freezing, un-syncing and re-syncing all the time were also trans coding. I also noticed that the trans coding processes was happening very slowly. in fact the playback speed kept trying to pass up the trans code speed. so i looked and noticed the HDD that contained the path for the trans code temp filees was basicaly full. when i moved that to  an HDD with more space, that issue seems to have ceased. SO as of now that seems to be solved. ill report back if any thing changes, however still no clue on the issue with the theme songs.

The issue with theme songs is the 22 khz songs. Those would play fine on the older BroadCom Roku hardware. The Roku 3/2/1 and older models. On the newer MStar models of Roku it has horrible support for 22 khz audio. It plays it as 44 khz and comes out all clickity clackity and horrible. It seems the newer MStar variant of Roku only support 44khz or higher. This affects many of the lower quality theme songs. The higher quality theme songs always used 44 khz.

 

Your other issue with playback is more environmental. Not so much a programming flaw on our behalf but a hardware issue was preventing full speed playback. Glad you solved that. We are here if you have more issues with playback. If you have more problems please let us know. We want to squash all the playback issues #1 priority. Thanks for any help spotting issues.
