Too many devices? Playback failed? How to remove devices?

It will only use a license slot for a week and then drop off but keep in mind it will only use that slot if you are using a Premiere feature.  If you're just playing back movies or shows that's free.

Theater IS premier. Read the matrix :)

So if I test an older version, I lose a slot too. Yay! That sounds just lovely!

Who cares you have 25 to waist?  As a Home user of 5 people and everyone has 5 devices (not likely) you are still good.

They are different clients as they use different players.  But as I commented Who will use them on the same system?

I just don't understand why you have an issue with a free client using a Premiere License when it uses a Premiere feature. It won't use a license if not using a Premiere feature.

That's kind of how it works.  Premiere Features require a Premiere License.

I thought everybody transcoded several different movies at once using ET, Windows store app and web client all at the same time on the same machine.  I just tile them all so that I can watch 3 movies at once.  It's a great way to catch up on movies when you're behind.

I guess you've arranged the audio so you get a different movie in each ear of your headphones, and subtitles on the third, right?

Ha! Oh come on guys! I'm just being a deliberate ass :) It's good to wake everybody up, once in a while. I don't really have any issues. But I never have just one activity open on my display. I usually have around 10 browser tabs open, while researching media and players. To have more than one player open isn't unusual. I've got around 70 versions of Theater on my machine (among other things). And most shows these days have so many lulls, you can do other things at the same time.

You are not actually experiencing a problem, correct?

Correct. But I wasn't aware that browsers now contribute to the limit. That was/is a legitimate concern.

Unless you actually experience a problem, I don't think it is. :)

As I always tell people - use the standard license.  Most likely, you will be fine.  If you run into a problem, then investigate larger licenses.

A fair comment, I suppose. But for the record, I don't like it. If we happen to test one browser because another is dysfunctional, then that slot is tied up for an indeterminate time. Given how many browsers there are, this can easily cause a problem. Is it clearly documented somewhere specifically how long a license slot is held on to? And the server admin should have the ability to release slots. This should not be controlled by emby. That's far too 'big brother', we should be able to decide for ourselves.

And now we've come full circle. That link explicitly describes what I disagree with.

What part do you disagree with?

Remember you can use a client that supports free playback such as a Roku (others mentioned previously) and can have any number of them.  You can purchase apps as well on Amazon, Google and Apple to unlock full playback on them as well.  Non of those will require a premiere license UNLESS using a Premier feature.

As a bonus to Server Premiere features it also unlocks 25 devices for full playback as well.
