Custom Forgot Password Link for LDAP

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I use LDAP so the Emby Forgot Password link can't be used.
Would it be possible to have it so I can have the button link to my Active Directory Password reset portal?

I just discovered ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus, which give me access to a free 33 user password recovery portal.
It works very well, and I'd like to be able to change the Forgot Password link from the base Emby Server to the link to my Self Service Portal.

This would make it so users can change there passwords as LDAP users.
Non of my users have Windows access on my domain just LDAP access. So they can't ctrl+alt+del to change passwords.

If there is CSS code to replace the default Emby link with my own I'm open to using CSS.

Let me know if this is something that can be done via a future update or css.

Thank you.

Hi, it's currently not possible but it's not a bad idea. Currently if you use ldap, your users will need to know to use that external system for resetting passwords.

@zer0ish try turning off the user option "Allow this user to change their password and profile image" so they can't change the password inside Emby.

You can then have this on your website outside of Emby.

Have you tried this?

I'm not sure what you mean by You can then have this on your website outside of Emby.

I already have CSS to block the Forgot Password area so people can't see it.
I also have the link to my self-serve portal in the "Log in Disclaimer".

I'm just interested in an option to embed a custom link to the Emby Forgot Password to keep things looking good.

When I add a new user to my Emby server, I send them an email with the instruction to go to the Self-Serve Portal to change their password and Enroll into the self-serve forgot password questionnaire for future use.

For example you can run a website on www.yourdomain.com and emby on emby.yourdomain.com is what I meant.

Not css but but have you seen these topics to add your own buttons.

Remember manual file edit within the system folder have to be done with every server update.

@Lukesomething new about possibility to configure custom forgot password url?

it would be great for example together with lldap (https://github.com/lldap/lldap)

I don’t have an update yet because it’s not that simple. Some users could be ldap but some not, so all of that needs be to considered.

It would be safe to assume that people who use LDAP, would only use LDAP for their users(other then the main admin account).
For example, I use openLDAP on unraid, and have a frontend website for users to reset their password.

So in theory, there could be some CSS to replace the Forgot Password built into Emby, to allow me to add the link to my ldap password reset website.
This would override the password reset from Emby. I'm not sure about how the Devs could implement it, since I'm not that great at this stuff.

Maybe something in the area: Dashboard > Settings. Something similar to "Login Disclaimer:" Where we can put our LDAP password reset website link, and that would override the default link from Emby.

Just throwing it out there. At the moment I use the "Login disclaimer:" section and add the link to the website user can reset their password, and I use CSS to remove the Emby default password reset system. Doesn't work for the user that use the android/ios/windows App, but people using the browser have no issues with seeing the link I provided.

Love the work you guys do, and am happy to run test on my unraid emby server if needed since it's not live and is currently a testing ground for me. My live server is still on my Windows server.

It’s not safe to assume as long as we allow it to be configured for each user.

Maybe have a disclaimer that for it?
"If you can't figure out the LDAP plugin, don't use this feature." 🤣
