Is there a good way to start a specific series after playing last episode of another?

There are many TV shows that have a different show that follows the plot line of another but occurs after it. An example is Babylon 5 and Crusade that follows right after it.

Is there any way to tell Emby that after the last episode of a series is played the first of the sequel should be placed in "Next up?"

Hey Gilgamesh_48,

None that I've ever seen.  You might be able to shoe in a trailer as an episode that follow the official last episode.  Never tried this to see if it would work.  But my thinking was you use a trailer for the next series as the last non official episode.

If you try it let us know if this works or not.

A "trailer" would not really work as I am not talking about one episode that follows a series but rather one series that follows another.

I know I could do it by renaming the following series so it appears as episodes of the current series and I could even get artwork and descriptions (since I store artwork and nfo files alongside media) my naming it correctly and letting Emby do its thing and then renaming all files and season folders to fit the main series. That jsut seems like too much work even with bulk renaming tools. But I think I will try that with Crusade as it is only one season and I am rewatching Babylon 5 right now.

Wish me luck.

Yes, I get that.  I was just thinking since we don't have this type of feature it could sort of be a way to introduce a user to the next series and maybe get them interested in since they just finished the first.  Just an idea.

I think it was Edison that said that in order to have one good idea you need to have a 1000 bad ones.

Your idea of enticing a user to another series might very well be a good one BUT in my case it is not what is intended by me in this case. As we have discussed before I am my only user so I need no "incentive" as I already know my library pretty well. I was just looking for a way to make it easier on my lazy ass.

I think the only way would be to manually create a Playlist with the episodes in the correct order.

I'm sure this has come up before, when people discussed the various crossovers in Flash/Supergirl/Arrow etc.

I solved this issue for the Babylon 5/Crusade pairiing.

1. I copied (Note copied not moved as I wanted to retain Crusade as an independent series) all of Crusade Season 01 to a temp location.

2. I renamed the "Season 01" folder to "Season 06"

3. I renamed all Crusade S01Exx files to Babylon 5 S06Exx, that includes all nfo files and all the image files and the media itself.

4. I Edited the season.nfo file and replaced <seasonnumber>1</seasonnumber> with <seasonnumber>6</seasonnumber>

5. I edited all the nfo files for each episode and replaced <season>1</season> with <season>6</season>

6. I then copied the new Season 06 folder into the Babylon 5 directory.

7. I then told Emby to scan the TV library and then when it was done Babylon 5 had a Season 06 with 13 new episodes and all the artwork and episode descriptions were correct.

It was not as easy as I would have liked but it was easy enough and it worked so, for now at least, I am content.

Now I need to figure how to do the same for Caprica and Battlestar Galactica. Caprica is a prequel so the trick I used above will not work unless I use the renaming on the whole  Battlestar Galactica series. That is not worth the effort.

BTW: Setting Caprica as "specials" will not work because specials do not work with "Next up."

Making a playlist of the episode sounds like a *lot* of work - I thought you were lazy.

You'd be better off just favouriting both shows and going into the favourites section.

On the other hand, it's a one time thing (transitioning from one show to the other) - as soon as you've found and played the first episode of the second show it'll be in Next Up anyway.

Very little work actually.  Go to TV section in browser.  Click the 3 dot menu for the first series and "add to playlist".  Go to the second show, click the 3 dot menu and "add to playlist".  First time you add to a playlist you create the playlist.  Second time you add to the existing playlist.  Very fast process.
