Split Versions Apart

After using the Split Versions Apart function, some movies are merged back together without my knowledge. Everyday I notice items missing from collections so I have to split them again and then add them back into the collections that they were in. Is there a way to lock them apart or am I misunderstanding this function?

Hello kidnappervan,

So basically you have Multi-Versions of movies such as Men in Black (1997)-1080p.mkv, Men in Black (1997)--3D.mkv & Men in Black (1997)--4K.mkv.

This multi-version Men in Black (1997) is then part of Men In Black Collection?

Then what you finding is that Men in Black (1997)--3D.mkv might be missing one day from the collection?  If this is the case is Men in Black (1997)--3D.mkv still part of the Multi-Version?

If this isn't the case can you go over an actual example for clarification?

Thanks

Carlo

Yes, that's the case.

For most movies I keep versions joined and select them using the drop down menu as intended but in this particular instance they are different edits of the movie so I like to have them displayed separately with their own individual poster art.

Your not running Auto Organize, AutoBox Sets or Automatic version grouping plugins are you?

I did notice you were using Trakt, so as a test I'd remove that plugin for a couple of days.

What is the Automatic Version Grouping Plugin?

And I've always wondered what the Trakt Plugin is all about..

Trakt plugin in a nut shell will sync your Emby Server's watch status for a user to the trakt.tv service.  The admin has to setup each user individually which requires they know the username/password for each user on trakt.   Because of this it's probably mostly used just by the admin or family where the username/password would be known by the admin (or family member could type it in themselves).  Some people use it as a poor mans backup for watched status and only push, not pull status.

The reason I mentioned uninstalling the plugin as a test is because it can sync watched status both ways (Emby to Trakt, Trakt to Emby) which would be updating the DB for said movies and maybe somehow causes the movies to drop from Collections.  Easy enough to rule out this way.

Guess I've never seen the purpose of trakt. I live without it and it doesn't really seem to bring anything I need to the table..

I'm not seeing what the Automatic Version Plugin does that I need either..

AVP does what the built in Multi-Version does but doesn't require your movies to all be in the same folder, nor even the same library.  You could have a 3D Movie lib, a 4K Movie Lib and your normal Movies and AVP can still stack them as a Multi-Version WHILE still applying the normal access restrictions.  So only users who have access to the 4K lib see that version.  Only users with access to the 3D lib, see them.  In a nutshell it combines any movie with the same IMDB ID if you want to think of it that way.

If you only have one server the Trakt plugin is only needed if you need to restore the watch status after a server crash of some kind. There are other ways to do that but I find for my use and with only me as a user then Trakt works easily and well.

However, if you have more than one server Trakt is very useful for keeping the watched status' in sync.

The core server will not do this. If you have the automatic grouping plugin installed, try removing it and then see if it happens again.

I've uninstalled the Trakt plugin and the issue remains. I am not using any automatic plugins.

I have nine versions of Star Wars in a folder, for each version, I've edited the title field in metadata, changed the poster art and added them to a collection. When I return later in the day to view the collection, only 3 versions are displayed. I click one version and choose Split Versions Apart, refresh the browser and it displays all nine. I've done this about 10 times since last night. I also can't seem to get the extras to stop showing in the main movies library, this doesn't happen with other movies, but, I assume, that may be a separate issue.

They are all named correctly using the dash method.

What are you editing in the Metadata editor?

Can you post a picture of your Star Wars folder?

I think @Luke will need to comment on this because to me one you have a Multi-Version of a movie the individual movies should not be available but only through that view.  If the multi-view is added to a collection then only one poster should show.

@Luke doesn't permanent split apart only apply to episodes?  Looking for the discussion topic.

No you can permanently split any video grouping.

What are we looking at here? This is a collection. Are you confusing two different features? Multi-version grouping and collections are two different things.

User wants ungrouped items to show within collection and Emby appears to regroup items after awhile, assume a full library scan.

Ok. if you're refreshing the metadata, it's possible that might cause this.
