Duplicates in Album Artists view

Hi,

I recently started importing my music collection into Emby, but i'm running into some problems.

First of all, i think i cleaned up my MP3 tags pretty well using Mp3tag 3.02

I've sorted my music in Mp3tag by Album Artist to make sure there are no funny spelling mistakes or any other weirdness.

But even with all that after importing my music library i end up with multiple of the same Album Artists. Only one has the proper picture associated with and has all the albums, the duplicates have no picture, no info and no albums linked to them

For Ben Harper it's even stranger. It made two correct entries for the same Album Artist and then just randomly split up the albums between them

What am i still doing wrong? Any help wold be appreciated!

So, after some further investigation i figured out a lot of the files still had some extended Tags that you don't see on the main screen of Mp3tag.

I deleted an insane amount of extended tags and normal tags i think. This is what i'm leftover with for all files, some have less, but none have any more than these.

 

After that i removed the music library from Emby, deleted all the .nfo files that were created (just to be sure nothing got reused) and re-created the music library. It solved a bunch of problems but it also created some new ones.

Before there were way more artists in Artists compared to Album artists, which is expected, but now there have the exact same amount. 

Also this time around Emby downloaded way less images for the artists for some reason, if i select change image it finds one without any problems

I also changed the Album artist for my soundtracks from Various Artists to Soundtrack and moved them into their own folder soundtracks. The albums all show up, but under Album Artists there is no entry for Soundtrack.

Before when i had them stored under Various artists they just showed up there, but after the change i can't locate them in the Album artists tab.

 

If anybody gets through reading all this and thinks they might have a solution, please let me know

ok, another update

Most of my problems are resolved by getting the metadata again in Emby. I guess something went wrong the last time. Everything is showing up as expected, except for Ben Harper. Whatever I try he stays showing up as 2 different Album artists, but i can live with that one.

My last confusion is this. I added a new folder to the music library with only a few songs for testing purposes. All the songs in this folder only have a Title, artist and artistsort, but that's it. No Album Artist, No Album in the Mp3tag

When these songs get added the artist shows up in both Album Artist and Artist and when you click on the artist it shows no songs linked to it. I can click the play button and the songs start playing, but it seems there is no way to see songs that are not tied to a Album, is this correct?

I also expected those artists to not show up under Album Artists since that field is empty in the mp3tag. I did check for extended tags, they are all removed.

This is my last item i'm struggling with. Then it's on to playlists. I read on the forum a while back that smart/dynamic playlists are a feature request. Is this already implemented or not yet?

@Bambu Utila have you updated to Emby Server 4.5? Are you still having an issue with this?

I just noticed this myself.  I have two artists for Oasis.  I checked the tags for the albums connected to the two different artists, they are all good, no extra spaces or anything.  However, the albums have two different genres.  Seems like it is being treated as a different artist even though the artist is the same.

Hi there, try moving all oasis music out of your music library, then run a full scan of all libraries to flush out the database, then add it back. Please see if that helps. thanks.

I tried that, same problem.

But I discovered the issue: a couple of the albums were missing the Album Artist data, where the other albums had it.  When I added the Album Artist data in, all of the albums are together and there is only one artist listed.

I think I can confirm this is happening. Just tested with one of my dupes. Guessing this is some type of bug? Different genre should not mean different Artist

Update: I do have a few artists that have albums with different genre's and doesn't make dupe artists for them

Actually I had different genres under Oasis and they were grouped together under the artist correctly.  Check the Album Artist data in the files.

do you have this problem in "Artists" view or just "Album Artist" view? i have the problem under both views

I noticed it under Artists view.  Now mine is good for both views.
