Ok so you disabled tvdb. The server was doing what you configured it to do by not utilizing tvdb in the metadata search.

Ideally in this situation the identify dialog should not even present tvdb id as a field to fill out, just haven't gotten to that yet.

Heh, I think ideally in this situation emby could still look for tvdb id and present it with some message like: “Entry found on tvdb which is turned off in the settings. Do you want to load it anyway?” or putting some note by tvdb id field: “turned off”...
I turned off Tvdb while it was not working some months ago and I totally forgot about it.
