Steven 158 Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 Hi, Would it be possible to add sort by Year as an option as sorting by release date does not work for music as they only contain a Year tag field. Cheers!
Luke 42085 Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 Hi, what happens when you try to sort by release date?
Steven 158 Posted August 5, 2020 Author Posted August 5, 2020 The release date field is not used for music as it’s too specific, so it changes the order when selected but not to anything meaningful.
Steven 158 Posted August 6, 2020 Author Posted August 6, 2020 Looking again this is strange because it is actually putting them in order of year but it stops just as it hits 2015, when I have albums going up to 2020 and none of these even show up..

Are those albums missing both the year and release date values?
Steven 158 Posted August 7, 2020 Author Posted August 7, 2020 I'll have to get back to you on a definite answer to that but I believe it is just when missing the release date - this is only retrieved when matched with MusicBrainz. Currently however after re-addng my music library over half of my music won't even show up so I have more to worry about! I just get empty pages like below where it tells me there's 14 track but who knows how to see them and it hasn't read any ID3 tags to get the album details..
Steven 158 Posted August 11, 2020 Author Posted August 11, 2020 Hi @Luke, To give an update on this after many days thorough sort out of my library using MusicBrainz PIcard and clearing out cache on Emby all of my releases that are just using the Year field are now sorting correctly when sorting by release date. There must have been other issues that had caused this previously.. Cheers
