Transcoding on Raspi 4B

Hi, I have an emby server hosted on Raspberry PI 4B and I am accessing the content from a Windows Machine in local home network.

Question

1) I realised that time seeking of large WMV takes a long time. Does emby transcode WMV file ?

2) Generally. what factor affects whether emby transcode the file or play directly? My windows machine has all the codec needed to play the file directly.

When i play the WMV file directly via SMB services in Raspi, it plays smoothly.

Hi, it depends on the emby app that you're playing from and what the device supports.

What emby app will you be playing from?

For example with the web app, web browsers have very limited format support so wmv will transcode.

But our emby theater app can direct play wmv.
