Calando 0 Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Hi, I am using emby 4.4.3.0 for my music library. All titles on the server include genre information. Now I changed some of these genre information to be more general which lead to some of the existing genres to be empty (there were some albums tagged "Rave", changed these to "Techno" - they immediately are displayed correctly, and not the genre "Rave" is empty). The problem I saw: when selecting the "Genre" view, the empty genre ("Rave" in the example) still exists but is obviously empty when selected. Is there any possibility to delete this unused genre from teh view? Scanning the library or restarting the server does not help... do I have to kill the underlying database file on the server, or is there any possibility to handle this via the GUI? I looked quite some time in the forums and the knowledge base but could not find an answer to this... Cheers, Marco
Luke 42086 Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Hi, I think the genre list and the content displayed after clicking on it are not in sync, that's why it still shows up. In other words, you think you've removed the genre from everything, but it still exists on something and that's why it still shows up there. But then you click on the genre and it's empty due to that screen using a slightly different filter. That's something we can look at. A possible cause - you removed the genre from all albums, but it's still tagged on some songs. When you click on the genre, that screen is only showing albums so that's why it's empty. To see if my guess is right, try going to the all Songs tab, and then use the filters to filter by genre and see what shows up.
Calando 0 Posted August 1, 2020 Author Posted August 1, 2020 (edited) Hi Luke, you were right - there were still songs tagged with that genre. Changing all tags of these songs also led to the genre disappearing from the "Genre" screen. One issue regarding the filter dialog - after deleting all tags from the songs, the filter was empty, of course. When now clicking on "Filter" (which still showed the blue icon), the "Genre" entry already showed "Any", but obviously the filter was still active with the old setting. Even selecting "Any" again does not help - I had to select any other existing genre, then "Any" again to really clear the filter. Thank you Marco Edited August 1, 2020 by Calando typo
Luke 42086 Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Yes we need to improve that situation with the filter dialog and have a way to clear the filter. Thanks for the feedback.
