4K Transcoding

Hallo, ich habe Probleme mit meinem Emby wenn ich 4K auf einem entfernten Rechner sehen möchte. Alle paar Minuten hängt der Film, und läuft dann weiter. Mir ist klar das er den 4K Film nicht zeigen kann, und er deshalb auf HD runter Transcodieren muss. HD Filme funktionieren einwandfrei. Bei emby habe ich die Hardware transcoding eingeschaltet, da emby Premium. Würde ein Wechsel auf einen i5-4690 helfen? Hier meine Hardware:

You don't want to transcode 4K material at all.  Instead what you want to do is have an HD version as well as 4K.

Use 4K locally or remotely for clients with the needed bandwidth and ability to direct play the media and use the HD version if not able to direct play 4K.

Lokal kann ich 4k sehen. Nur vom entfernten Computrt nicht. Dann muss emby ja logischerweise transkodieren.

The problem is that 4K media is BIG and requires a lot of horsepower to transcode.  Most Emby Servers don't have the needed power to do this well.

There is also other problems involved with some 4K media and that is HDR to SDR color space mapping.

So even if you have the CPU/GPU to actually transcode the videos the colors might be off a lot.

What many of us do who use 4K media is to put all 4K media into it's own library but also have a 720/1080 version of the same file in the normal library.  You then only grant access to the 4K media to people who can direct play it.

Speed of the CPU isn't going to help with color space issues that can happen going from HDR to SDR in 4K material.

musst schon min 6. Gen. CPU nutzen oder halt eine Graka einbauen die h265 decoden kann auf Hardwarebasis, weil die 4. Gen kann das nicht, deswegen stockt das.

Beim Abspielen eines 4K Films zeigt mir Emby Theater etwa 25Mbps an, 50 sollten also eigentlich reichen. Ich hatte die gleichen Probleme auf meinen Android und Android TV Geräten, das Bild ruckelt oder friert ein während der Ton weiterläuft oder es gibt nur bunte Klötzchen. Ich habe dann einen externen Player eingebunden (VLC Player) und seitdem funktioniert es problemlos. Der VLC Player kann 4K Filme offenbar direkt wiedergeben ohne das der Emby Server transcodieren muss. Der Fehler lag also eindeutig an der Emby for Android App, die kann einfach nicht vernünftig mit 4K Filmen umgehen. Hast Du es schonmal mit einem externen Player versucht?

Emby kommt nicht schnellgenug mit dem Transcodieren hinterher.

Ich muss mal eine Lanze für Emby brechen:

Es liegt nicht grundsätzlich an Emby, dass das Transkodieren zu langsam ist.

4K Transkodierung ohne Hardware-acceleration ist etwas, dass extrem viel Rechenleistung benötigt, da kommst du mit deinem Haswell-i3 nicht weit.

 

Zu deinem Problem: Für mich hört es sich so an als ob es netzwerktechnisch Probleme auftauchen. Heißt, zu langsam um das File direkt abzuspielen, was wiederum zum transkodieren führt.

Versuch mal folgendes:

Gehe in die Wiedergabeeinstellungen in der App und setze die "Internet-Qualität" > als die Bitrate der Datei, die du versuchst wiederzugeben.

Die automatische Erkennung funktioniert leider nicht immer zuverlässig.

If thats the case, why do i have no problems at all with VLC (MX Player for my Android TV) defined as external Player in Emby and the Emby internal Player looks like the Screenshot attached? Same Movie, same Device, same Network Connection. Most of my 4K Movies play quite well with the Emby internal Player but some just don´t.

Mit einem Ryzen 5 2600, Radeon RX 580 und 16GB Ram, kann ich problemlos 4k Material transkodieren und in der Ferne auf anderen Geräten, ausserhalb des Netzwerkes, gucken.

Ah, sorry, es war mit Plex und nicht mit emby. Ich kann via Plex 4k HDR Streamen.
Habe es mit eben eben auch getestet und bei emby hängt es ständig.
Wieso kann das Plex und emby nicht?

Emby is likely doing a transcode based on something that has been set like a bandwidth limit.

Try playing back one of these media and then look at the device on the Emby Dashboard.  If transcoding click the "i" info icon and copy/paste here what it says.

Das Medium wird in ein Format konvertiert, das mit dem Abspielgerät kompatibel ist.


Grund für die Transkodierung:
Medienbitrate überschreitet das Limit.


Das Limit liegt bei 40MBit. Es werden aber auch Filme in SD Quallität transkodiert (Kleine 1000MB große Filme/Serien) mit der gleichen Begründung. Die Medienbitrate überschreitet das Limit.

So this would mean there is a limit set somewhere.

There is a global setting for all users

Network -> Internet streaming bitrate limit (Mbps):

The individual user bitrate
Users -> pick user -> Internet streaming bitrate limit (Mbps):

Then there is the setting on the client itself.  Try changing that to the highest setting allowed.

Try playing again and let us know how you make out.

I set the limit to 40 Mbps, the stream was played directly but it was jerky.
Then on 10 Mbps and the same problem. However, it has now been transcoded.

Plex is also used for transcoding. Plex says 480x270 @ 720Kbps
The film runs well without any stuttering.

Emby on 1Mbps and it keeps stuttering.
I can not understand this. Plex does something different / better.

OK but wait.  This is HDR material correct?  Why would you want to transcode HDR to SDR down to 480x270 at less than 3/4 mbps?

It's not going to look good due to the color space difference.

That's right, the picture wasn't super good but you could see it and that's my point.
Why does it work with plex (i don't like plex unfortunately) and why doesn't it work with emby?

No chance. It stutters even at the lowest setting.
But it also jerks in the LAN as soon as 4k material is transcoded.
