MastaG 4 Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Hi there, My younger brother uses an Android smartphone and Chromecast to watch the videos on my Emby beta server 4.5.0.14 running on Fedora X64. However the dashboard keeps displaying the sessions forever. It's probably due to him turning off his TV so the Chromecast won't send a "Goodbye". So perhaps some active checking could be implemented to see whether the video is still being requested?
MastaG 4 Posted February 18, 2021 Author Posted February 18, 2021 Hi I still have this issue. There's two active Chromecast sessions that remain on the dashboard forever. Even after upgrading from 4.6.0.22 to 4.6.0.26 (and thus restarting the service). Some check could be added whether they're still playing? Or should they stay in the dashboard forever??
Luke 42078 Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Hi, are the Chromecast devices still communicating with your emby server? Please attach the emby server log from when this happens. thanks.
ray-finkle 10 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 I have this same exact issue. Attached are some of my logs. emby_chromecast_sessions.txt

ray-finkle 10 Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Yes both of those sessions are still active now. Seems to just be perpetually stuck. My containers stop for backups every night too.

ray-finkle 10 Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 No they are not and haven't been for over a week now... Sorry for the lack of clarity. The admin dashboard shows two sessions like below: I had mentioned it to this user and they said typically just turn their TV off as they fall asleep. I assume that means not stopping playback beforehand.
MastaG 4 Posted March 29, 2021 Author Posted March 29, 2021 I had to delete the user and add it again to get rid of the 'hangin' session. I'm running the latest beta and so far it hasn't occured (yet).

Glad to hear there is a way to resolve it but this is not a good resolution in my book. @Luke I just tested this locally and it is very easy to replicate. Start a casting session and play a video, then just turn off the chromecast endpoint/TV. Voila, the session is now stuck in the dashboard. Additionally, when I turned the chromecast/TV back on the I could hear the audio of the file I was playing but the video was not there. Loading into Emby didn't change this. Only restarting the Chromecast stopped the audio. I did notice the file was still casting from the Android app and upon Chromecast reboot the playback stopped within the app and soon after left the dashboard as well. This narrows it down pretty well to an issue with Chromecast going into standby during playback. Edited March 29, 2021 by ray-finkle
