Need ATV 1.8.11g to be release by Google

Hi @EBR it's been more than 3 weeks now since all these lock up / ATV restart issues when closing Live TV was identified.  This issue also causes Emby not to release the tuner which in turn causes  the buffer to overfill and then scheduled recordings start failing. I am constantly needing to force restart Emby server to free the tuner and release the buffer.

You have advised almost 3 weeks ago that you released ATV 1.8.11g to Google but there is no sign of it.  In the interim I have seen 2 updates to Plex in the same period.  I understand that there is a supposed delay at the Google end but could you please follow up with them as this issue is becoming quite frustrating to many.

I really do appreciate all the work you guys do am an extremely happy user of EMBY but just wish we could get past this latest issue.

I understand there is a work around to sideload ATV but for my part I have no idea how to achieve this and am hesitant to try.

Thanks and regards

Go complain to Google then as they control when new versions get released - not in EBR's control

ebr also mentioned in another thread that Emby is in a slower review category at Google so it will probably take longer then Plex for things to get reviewed and to make things worse once he submits a new update the time resets.

Once you side load the app for the first time you will wonder why you didn't try it before it's so easy

Basically,

  1. Download the zip
  2. extract the apk to a usb or network drive
  3. Install File Explorer app on Shield
  4. Use Explorer to navigate to where the apk file is located and click on it

@frostbyte Hi, there seem to be a few different File Explorers in the play store, is there any one in particular you can recommend, thanks.   Oh and where can I find the ATV 1.8.11g apk/zip thanks.

Is this the File Explore I should install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anker.fileexplorer

Or just join the beta and download install it through the play store.

@cayars Betas aren't coming through very fast either, which is why EBR provides the APK when he releases a new beta.

@aja07 I personally use X-Plore on my Shields to enable me to side-load the APKs.

Latest versions of the app:

Emby for Android TV
Google Devices
Stable: v1.8.10g (2020/06/27)
Beta: v1.8.17g (2020/07/17)

Amazon Devices
Stable: v1.8.10a (2020/06/27)
Beta: v1.8.17g (2020/07/17)

I use the one from Anker like in your link.  Real easy and simple file explorer

Download apk in zip

https://emby.media/community/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=72278

Once the store catches up/surpases it will upgrade over top

Yes, this is all that is required for the fix you are after.

We're sorry but know that any frustration you are feeling we have ten-fold.  This is completely out of our control and maddening.  Google holds all the cards and if they want to screw us around, they just do it seems.

Thanks @ebrI can appreciate your frustration, and apologies for the vent.

I have now installed File Explorer and side loaded 17g as per @Frostbyte 's guidance (thank you).  The process was easy as and I don't know why I waited so long :)

I understand I can join the Beta program but I have noticed that on occasion some Beta's can be problematic and with my devices being family devices I do not want to further risk their dissatisfaction :).  At least now I can selectively choose which beta's to side-load.

Thanks to all who contributed, much appreciated.

Click on the client app on the download screen and you'll see this on the right side. Look at the red oval I added
