Hi,

Is it possible to use emby webhooks to send a notification to my phone via IFTTT when a user starts playing something?

If so, could you tell me how as I'm having no luck with it at all.

Thanks

Think you have to pay to use the IFTTT api don’t you?

Oh do you? I haven't seen that.

Thanks

Pretty sure IFTTT is completely free to use, including webhooks. I’ve never seen it require any payment.

However, I have no idea if you can make it work with Emby webhooks directly.

Free for end users yes. The company I use for home automation stopped using IFTTT because if the licence fees

That’s what I meant, since I assume OP is using the service as a user.

I’ve tried setting up a test webhook between IFTTT’s webhooks and Emby and it seemed to work fine. Although, it wasn’t very fast and would often take a bit of time to respond. You just need to follow the documentation on IFTTT’s site to find the URL to use.

@samuelqwe Could you tell me roughly how you got it working, I tried following the documentation but no matter what I did, nothing worked.

Thanks

@Ninko, sure.

1. Create a recipe with a webhook input (call the webhook whatever you want, for example: emby_play)

2. Go in the documentation to find the maker.ifttt.com URL with your user key. That will be your URL and you need to put in the webhook name (emby_play, in this example) where it says to.

3. Add the webhook in Emby, put in the URL you’ve just found and set it up to respond to whatever events you want.

It should work from there, that’s all I did. If it’s not working, it is possible it’s just very slow, as it definitely was for me.

I use IFTTT for several things with my Echos but I would never use IFTTT for anything I needed anything close to fast response for.

I find it quite reliable but it is not fast at all although it is faster now than it was when I first started using it. Anything you want to do has to send the trigger to your account and then it must be interpreted then whatever is needed needs to be sent to the device you are trying to operate.

It is very useful but it is not fast at all.

I have never had a need to use their "webhook" functionality directly but it should be simple to do it as @samuelqwe described.

Yes you can hook up emby web hooks to ifttt or other similar services such as zapier.
