Emby connect doesnt do anything?

When logging in on my TV app for the first time i am presented with "Add Server" and "Connect with emby connect"

On the TV the connect with emby connect. When i click emby connect i get a pin number. I go to the appropriate address and enter the pin and it says it worked then goes right back to the previous page. I can do this and enter the pin number an infinite number of times and it will sucessfully complete but take me back to the same page.

This also happens on my laptop. the page http://app.emby.media/#!/startup/selectserver.html page gives me the "add server" and connect with emby connect. connecting with emby connect prompts me for a username and password but once entered it just takes me right back to the same page.

So if i want to add the server i have to enter the IP address. This is not really user friendly especially when i give my family members access to my server. with any other app they just open the app and it gives them a 4 digit code and i log in to a specific web address on my account and enter that code and boom the app is now logged in and has access to the server.

Is this in the works? or is it just going to be the IP address thing forever? I also dont see the point of the Emby connect since it literally does nothing.

There are a few steps you need to take after just installing your server to use Emby Connect.

Most likely you will want your server to be on the Internet vs just on your local LAN which is the default so you will need to configure this. We have a knowledge base article with some good information on this

https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001849007-connectivity

Next after setting up your server so it's on the internet you will want to setup users or at least one user besides your admin account. This knowledge base article will help with user settings, permissions and all things user account related.

Once you have a user setup you can add the optional Emby Connect to that specific user.  Emby Connect will take the guess work out of knowing your server's name or IP address which is useful if you don't want to setup a domain for your Emby Server.  This knowledge base article will guide you in how to setup Emby Connect for each user.

These articles cover the basics of each step but if you need additional help or have questions, please ask!

@BajungaDustin has this helped? Are you still having an issue with this?

no this hasnt helped.  This should just work. Accounts should have built in admin or user tags from the get go and shouldnt require this amount of back end setup to make my server show up.

For example If I have a server and I log in to the account from the TV or a browser then it should just be there with an option to switch server if more than one are present. It 100% works like this on PLEX and if you guys want to compete with Plex you need to be better than and easier to use with more features. You have the more feature customization which is great.. but also more bugs. Like the play timer bar stays up on the LG theater version of the app sometimes and never goes away until the user interacts with it. Which could cause potential damage to some screens leaving this line on the screen for too long. You also have more intrusive advertisements that dont even offer any features that i need so im sitting there declining the popup every 3 hours or so. Complete garbage.

After being bombarded by the emby premium signup ad too many times I have since stopped using the app and have gone back to plex so i no linger require any assistance with issues. Thanks though.

If you perform the steps and setup Emby for YOUR ENVIRONMENT, it does just work.

Unlike Plex, Emby allows you to setup your server many ways, like with or without SSL encyption, with your own domain name, via a CDN network, etc.

That flexibility requires more upfront setup but pays off BIG in functionality after the setup is complete.

We would be happy to you get things setup properly for your needs and could even do this in a remote support session if you are interested.

Just let us know,

Hi. The reason this is much easier with the other guys is because they OWN all your users.  We don't operate that way.  Your users are your users.

We do have improvements for this process in the works but you will still be in control of your own users.

Thanks.

We put the personal in personal media server.

You're running a server and some things are just administrative in nature.  If you setup a file server, ftp server or any other type of Internet server you have to setup users, set rights and privileges, passwords, etc.  No one expects Microsoft to setup users for them automatically as the user doesn't belong to them.

Your users in Emby are YOUR users under YOUR full control.  With the other media computer they ARE NOT your users but theirs and they control the user experience with what a lot of people call junk services from podcasts to news to old movies with ads from crackle to music services they profit from.  They are profiting and piggy backing on you setting up friends and family for THEM.

Emby is entirely different.  YOUR USERS, YOUR CONTENT, YOUR CONTROL.  Emby might be a bit harder to setup for remote use but that's because it can function like a "Netflix" in that your server can be access by a domain name using YOUR SSL CERT, it can site behind a proxy server, can be integrated in with a CDN network such as Cloudflare pretty easily.

As Luke said above "We put the personal in personal media server" so you can personalize the experience for your friends and family!

If you follow the knowledge base articles mentioned in post 2 that will guide you in the setup and we are always here to help if you get stuck or need assistance.

What? This a great server! If you are having problems setting it up I suggest being more polite and asking the right questions.
