Painkiller88 249 Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 (edited) Hi, How can i add Share Tags to multiple Movies and TV Shows? I Saw the option to allow a user to see only the content with specific tags, but i don't have the option to set a TAG for multiple files. I have a few thausend movies and i don't wanna share ALL of them with all users. So how can i do this? Is there a way i can open the emby DB with a DB editor and add the tags on my own? Because i think it isn't supported via GUI. Maybe i am just blind because this is a really basic function and i don't believe this isn't possible. Edited July 5, 2020 by Painkiller8818
Luke 42078 Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Hi, we don't currently have bulk edit features but they're planned for the future. Thanks.
Painkiller88 249 Posted July 6, 2020 Author Posted July 6, 2020 Ok, any way to edit it myself using a DB Editor? Because this should be implemented very soon, i can't choose what movies to share and which not with my friends. I don't wanna share all to everyone.

You just organize different folders then point the library to all the folders and apply access at the folder level to your users. New Folder based Access Control

New Folder based Access Control Yeah but this means i need to reorganize my whole library. I came from plex and i have a few thousand movies. I would like to see you implement this as soon as possible. because i can choose "share tags" but i can't set them as bulk to add a tag.
ebr 16184 Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 Bulk editing is something we'd very much like to do but, when it comes to allocating resources, actual media and app features always still get priority right now so I cannot promise when this will come about (we've had it in our plans from the beginning). It will get done. I just cannot say when.

Just adding a TAG to multiple Movies or TV-Shows
Carlo 4561 Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 Mind if I ask why you need to use the TAG feature for this? What exactly are you trying do that you don't want to share certain things?

What exactly are you trying do that you don't want to share certain things? Yeah exactly i just wanna share movies with a specific TAG and under parental control you can set this up. I don't wanna use this for locking contents for kids, but i came from plex and there you could add a share Tag, and only if i allow User A to see this TAG, he can see this movie. So thats what i wanna do. My library is just 1 for Movies and 1 for TV-Shows, and i don't wanna organize my whole library new just because of my friends. How did you solve this? I wanted to use the tags as share-tags.
Carlo 4561 Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 The way to "solve" it is to not use TAGs for this unless you want to touch every movie/show you ever add to your system. This will get old very fast and if you ever have to rebuild... What you want to do is organize your libraries so you can give access or not to a whole library. For children you can set an account up with a rating so for example a child account can play anything up to PG-13. Tag usage is better for exceptions like if you have a child who freaks out with "clowns" or something like that. In this case you could add a specific tag to movies that they would see such as CLOWN and then use this as a filter for that user.
Yerky 0 Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 I have been perusing multiple threads on this topic and this one seems to be the closest to what I am struggling with as well. On PLEX, you can bulk edit multiple video files to add or remove tags. This is very helpful when creating cascading or compounding effects of rights and permissions. When you have different users who access the system, it helps to be able to grant them access quickly to certain "groupings" of files across video types (i.e. movies and tv shows). So as an overall example for say a family situation might be as follows: Son 1 should be allowed to watch general shows that contain no violence or curse words. So content appropriate for them can be tagged as "Son 1" Son 2 should be able to see content that Son 1 sees, but also shows with minor violence. So content appropriate for them can be tagged as "Son 2" and the tag Son 1 is added to their profile. Daughter 1 should be able to see all that Sons 1 and 2 see, but maybe also adult level dramas with no nudity. So content appropriate for them can be tagged as "Daughter 1" and the tags Son 1 and Son 2 is added to their profile. Mom should be able to see everything the kids do plus all adult content, but does not want to watch high quality Chinese Kung-fu movies. So content appropriate for them can be tagged as "Mom" and the tags Son 1, Son 2 and Mom (and one not mentioned yet, Horror as well) is added to their profile. Dad want to see everything that the rest of the family does, plus those awesome kung-fu movies. But he does not want to watch certain types of horror movies because they are boring. So content appropriate for them can be tagged as "Dad" and the tags Son 1, Son 2, Mom and Dad is added to their profile. (No horror since this excludes the ones he does not want to watch) This example can be resolved with simple bulk tags and combining them per user. I edit my PLEX library of some 10K video files in less than an hour. When I want to add friends to the list of users, I can quickly just add the content "type" that they would interested in and exclude content they may not want to watch. This makes finding something to watch fairly easy. This is one example of an approach that we as prior PLEX users really liked. We also had numerous other tags as well since most of us seem to disagree with the "Labels" that products like IMDB and others may assign to our files. Not all PG content maybe appropriate for one kid, but perfectly acceptable for another. Also, classifications may not be accurate as well. An Action movie may not be the type of action one person likes, but another may. It gave us granular control of what videos were shared and seen by our user community. I even knew one user of PLEX who maintained some more "personal" home movies on his family Plex server with out any worries of parents or children seeing those files that he and his wife shared. Creating separate folders will take weeks for some of us to reorganize our video libraries. And even then, how do we change quickly if a user or file type becomes appropriate to someone else when it wasn't before? Reorganize again? I know for me personally, I only have about 20-25 active users streaming from my library, but others have many more than that. What does Emby recommend as an approach to managing that content quickly especially as our content constantly changes as does our users as well?

Great community-made bulk-tagging tool (latest version is usually between last posts on the thread): 1
Yerky 0 Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 GrimReaper - Thanks for the direction, but after scanning several pages I must have missed something. Like where do I place that file and how do I access it. Seems like everyone else for on the 21 pages knows where to place the file.
Yerky 0 Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 Disregard my last message. I figured it out. Thought it was necessary to put that file in the root folder of the web server or something. Will play with it now. Thanks again.
