revengineer 142 Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 Hi, I have installed emby on a new server and given some differences I configured from scratch rather than restoring a backup. Most significant is that the storage locations for files have changed. However the underlying media files are the same. Is there a way to transfer the flag indicating that a show/movie was watched from the old server to the new one? Thank you for help in advance. @cayars
Happy2Play 9783 Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 The Server Configuration Backup plugin has the ability to restore previous backed up users and userdata. That is the preferred method of restoring users and user data. Otherwise you have to have a copy of previous library.db and attempt to import the userdatas table into the new library.db. 1
Carlo 4561 Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 I find it easier to just move the db files and not try to import. It's a step not needed with 4.x Emby.
revengineer 142 Posted July 1, 2020 Author Posted July 1, 2020 The original instance of the emby server is still running, so I do have access to the library.db file. Can I really simply copy that file to the new server even though the locations are different now? Or do I need to export the the userdata table from the database and import it into the library.db on the new server?
Happy2Play 9783 Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 Ideally if you are Premiere user I would use the plugin and make a backup and only restore users and users data on new server. But you can copy the users.db and library.db to new server as it should purge all existing data on first library scan and import all new paths.
revengineer 142 Posted July 1, 2020 Author Posted July 1, 2020 I am a premiere user. I already setup the users. If I use the backup config plugin, can I just import the user data or do I have to restore the user accounts themselves as well?
Carlo 4561 Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 You might start to get things mixed up as you're doing a semi-different config and we'll have different IDs. I'd shut down Emby on the new computer. Make a backup of the DB (just in case). Copy the DB from the old computer over to replace them on the new machine and restart Emby. Check the libraries and rescan then you should be in good shape.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 Well you would just need to ensure the username are mapped during the userdata only restore. Userid are sequential at the time they are added. So you could have different people assigned to different userids. That is where just restoring the library.db can create issues.

revengineer 142 Posted July 1, 2020 Author Posted July 1, 2020 Thank you all! @ebr seems to have the simplest (or least error prone) solution. I have restored entire configs in the past when switching between stable and beta versions on the same server, but have never done so for portions of the config. Is the userA-to-userB mapping part of the GUI flow?

revengineer 142 Posted July 1, 2020 Author Posted July 1, 2020 This is perfect! Thank you, I will give this a shot.
