Question about migrating to different PC - Metadata and comments

So I have spent much, much time manually adding reviews and such like into the overview section in metadata relating to albums in my music libraries. I now need to move my server to a different PC and I think I have a reasonable grasp of how to move content to a new PC and using the backup facility.

However, I am really nervous about whether the overviews will transfer over in the process. I realise I have the metadata folder and I also have ensured photos etc saved in the associated media folders that I am going to move over ‘as is’. Is there anything else I can do or need to do to ensure the comments and other metadata (nearly forgot, I also have the iAudio web links etc to transfer over) go over with the media files?

I am really hoping this is possible. I couldn’t see any mention of this in the support articles. If I transfer over and the overviews don’t transfer over, it’s very possible that, after all the time that took, I may never stop weeping. Or maybe not for some months anyhow.

 Thanks for any help here!

If you're staying on the same OS (ie Windows to Windows) this should be pretty easy.

What you want to do is copy all your directories over to the same location on the new pc.  You can then install Emby on top of it which will act like an update.

You will then need to edit each library if your paths have changed and refresh the library afterward.

This knowledge base article is good to read: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159936-backup

Obviously keep all files on the old pc just in case.

Many thanks! 🙏

@cayars - which option do you think would be most reliable here: using the plugin or migrating manually?

Manual migration is going to be what moves everything.  But both are important.
