sooty234 266 Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 (edited) How do you structure complex TV extras? Deleted scenes. Featurettes. Behind the scenes etc. They are all specific types that need their own folders, and not be integrated into any other folder or season. I'm trying to structure all of the extras from Supernatural. There are hundreds of files that need to be separated, but the server keeps clumping them all together. I remove the generic markers like seasons from the metadata, but they just get added to another 'folder'. (I'm trying to insert pictures, but the new site won't let me. Only attach them, which doesn't fit my requirements). With no screenshots you'll have to use your imagination. The folders I've created are all displayed, but all the media is in one, but each 'cover' has the same count of media, as though they were all the same folder. (Not being able to insert pictures and write text above and below, makes this very difficult). I fear that what I want isn't possible. Library type is TV. Edited June 30, 2020 by sooty234
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 A TV Library does not support folders like featurettes, deleted scenes you are confusing that with a Movie Library You need to put them in the Specials/Season 0 folder and name them in the supported way e.g. with s00exx in the name As they are unlikely to be all on tvdb start the s00exx where xx is say 50 or more so any new ones added to tvdb dont clash with your "extras"
sooty234 266 Posted June 29, 2020 Author Posted June 29, 2020 That's what I thought. That means I won't be able to include them. The prescribed convention is unusable with what I have and for what I want. I'll have to put them in my miscellaneous library, or just delete them.
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Its not unusable - as i have done that for mine Yes - it means you have to do some work naming them - but thats only a one time thing
sooty234 266 Posted June 29, 2020 Author Posted June 29, 2020 Naming them S00Exx is the opposite of what I want, and doesn't apply, as most of them are not seasonal. I want the actual names, and not have metadata 'fetched'. I understand that naming them in that sequential manner, they will be listed, but that will remove the categorizing and segregation. It just isn't anything like what I want.

PenkethBoy 2068 Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 you can do what you want - number them in the order you want them to appear AND add extra/featurette etc to the name as a prefix/suffix or some other meaningful title Not hard to do just time consuming If you are wanting this to be automatic you will wait a very long time
sooty234 266 Posted June 29, 2020 Author Posted June 29, 2020 I don't want any numbers. And if I did, this would create a list of titles all in one location and put in the order of the numbers that I allocate. This is the opposite of what I want. I don't want to scroll through a list of hundreds of titles.
Bigmack3000 107 Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 As long as your file names don't have numerals in them "1, 2, 3, etc" (use one, two, three, etc instead) it works to just put them in the specials folder with out adding S00Exx. And then you can assign them a number order with "edit metadata" inside of Emby. But, I agree. Putting a large grouping of various extras into one folder makes it nearly unusable. Also, it can distort how large a show is as it counts every file in the specials folder as an episode. If a mini series has copious extras, than suddenly an 8 episode show appears to have 32 episodes. Even though it's unsupported, simply naming a folder "Deleted Scenes" or "Behind the Scenes" does work well enough. I'm not sure why these folders don't simply become official.
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 (edited) As everyone is telling you you can absolutely do what you want. You can call them ANYTHING you want but they need to be in the Season 00 folder. I name mine according to the season set they came with and then add metadata and names as I wish. So for a special that came on the season 1 disc set I name it Show Title S00E101 Special Title.mkv. If it came with the season 2 discs I'd go with E201. If it wasn't tied to any season I'd give it some other number that I could keep track of. Yes, it's the same naming convention as specials that DO have online metadata, but that's harmless as long as there isn't already a E101 in thetvdb.com. That only hapens on shows like Doctor Who that have a TON of specials on TVDB. For Doctor Who I just bumped my other specials up to E1001 for season 1 and 2001 for season 2, etc. Emby will fail to find a match and then I can rename the files in the metadata editor to whatever I want. sooty234 266 Posted June 30, 2020 Author Posted June 30, 2020 You don't seem to understand what I'm saying. I know can call them anything I want, and give them the S00Exxxxx, but they'll still all be in one place, in a very long list. Once again, this is the opposite of what I want. I want them categorically separated. Something like this:
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 Well as was posted in the very first response, they have to go in a single folder. There they can sort so that all your deleted scenes are together if you wish, but one folder. You can raise a feature request if you wish.
sooty234 266 Posted June 30, 2020 Author Posted June 30, 2020 There is already a feature request. Happy posted the link to it, and I have given my support for it. I pretty much described the situation in the first post. I suppose I should have been blunt, and stated that I had read the wiki instructions on TV naming. And that the convention is insufficient and inapplicable. But it appears an assumption was made that I hadn't read it, didn't understand it or I simply don't know what I'm talking about. But if I must repeat myself until I am understood...c'est la vie.
pwhodges 2012 Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 Emby will often show multiple non-season folders, but it's unsupported, and the behaviour is inconsistent. If you're prepared to experiment a bit, you may find it possible to get what you want, but with no guarantee that it will continue for ever. For instance, I have the folders: and the result in Emby is: Two of my non-season folders are there (both contain files identified by s00enn which are found correctly), and one of them isn't (and the files don't appear elsewhere either). Make of that what you will; but I guess there will be no help available! My only guess, which I haven't tried, is that if I gave the files in the missing folder s00enn names (fake!) they might then appear; alternatively I could try calling that folder "Specials"!. Paul
