rgarg 0 Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 (edited) I am interested in changing the local address used to access my Emby with a name so I will not need to enter a number to access Edited June 21, 2020 by rgarg
pwhodges 2014 Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 (edited) You don't "change the address", you use a name which is defined to mean the existing address. If you mean in your local network, you can use the name of the machine running Emby. If you mean from outside your network, assuming you've got that working, then it's a matter of registering a domain name which you then use to point to your IP address. Domain names can be paid (on a subscription basis) or free - the choice of what ending (.com, .org, .xxx or whatever) hugely affects the cost, but "ordinary" names may be in the order of £15 a year. A registrar of free names which often gets mentioned is https://www.namecheap.com/ and for paid names (a wider choice) you can try your ISP, or companies like https://godaddy.com/ - I use a French registrar https://www.gandi.net/ Whatever name you get, you will still need to type the port number at the end, as this is not part of the address specified by a domain name. If you have set up Emby to respond on port 80, you can usually skip this requirement. Similarly for port 443 for https connections - but you can't have set that up yet, as you'd already need to have a domain name to get a certificate... Paul Edited June 21, 2020 by pwhodges
