Thank you a thousand times pwhodges! The words 'loopback' and 'hairpin' were key. My router is dumb and isn't able to do such fancy things, however there is a work around for garbage routers.

 

You need to find 'DNS host mapping' for Zycel C3000Z its under advanced -> wan settings. Then enter

DNS host name: <mydomain>.com

IP address: <internal IP of server emby runs on>

and set domain name: (check 'enabled')

 

This makes it work perfectly from inside the network as well.
