Certain Shows Take 20+ Seconds to Play

Hi all,

Hoping for some help here. Some shows seem to take over 20 seconds to play after clicking "play" whether its direct playing, streaming or transcoding. Other shows play within 2 seconds of clicking "play." This issue occurred on my old build and I ended up finishing a new build and this same thing occurs. The ONLY hardware that stayed the same between builds was the hard drives (a mix of 4-12TB WD Red NAS drives in a DrivePool pool).

New build is Windows Server 2019
E5-2650 v2 x 2
32GB of RAM
Running on an SSD

Attached is the server log and an example of a transcode. I tried playing two shows, one transcoded, one didnt, but both took 20+ seconds to play after clicking "play." I checked the pool, and both were on different hard drives. I also have StableBit Scanner and all hard drives have come back completely healthy.

I have a Fiber gig connection and the server is behind a reverse proxy, if that helps in taking away any network related issues.

Thanks!

By any chance, are your videos with the issue 1080p HEVC?

I came here to report my issue with the above file type when I found this and thought it may be linked.
=================================================================================
I'm running Emby Server 4.4.3.0 on Windows 10 (2004 Build 19041.329) with similar hardware as you have listed.

Reloaded Emby, then reloaded the OS, moved from a wireless to wired connection, and today moved the media to another physical drive.

Any video in 1080p H264 works, as does anything else at 720p HEVC.

1080p HEVC does one of two things:
      1. Plays (literally) 2 seconds of the video and freezes for various lengths of time.
      2. Takes about 30 seconds to start to play.
In both instances, I get intermittent freezing through playback.

I can watch these files through Emby on the server, but I have a 100% re-creatable issue every time on my Apple TV Emby app, Linux notebook [Pop OS (Ubuntu) and Manjaro (Arch) - both with Firefox and Chromium] and Android Emby app.

Nope, both were actually 720p H264, AAC for audio and in an MKV container.

Looks like what happened here is it tried to direct play, then the tizen video player had a problem with the file and so it automatically switched to transcoding. That's why it took longer to start playing.

I don't see any obvious reason why it fails to DirectPlay.  Happy if you want to PM me a link where I can download and test it.

I'll send you a PM. Most shows on my Samsung SmartTV (Tizen Video Player) take about 20 seconds, sometimes longer, to play.

Are you still having an issue with this?

Kind of. I worked with SamES on some troubleshooting and we ended up just having my personal devices connect with the internal instance instead of go to my external site. This issue would still exist with external users.
