bgregor 2 Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Hi, I get a flicker in HD ipTV recordings and live TV through Emby. This is viewable on my 2 Samsung tvs. The same flicker is present if I use emby server to convert the files to MP4. However if I use the transcode function on my Qnap nas to convert the files to MP4 the flicker is gone and the video is smooth on the Samsungs Any ideas what can be happening?
Luke 42077 Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !

The original Emby recording , the converted Emby recording and the Nas converted which plays smoothly without an issue. The flicker happens about 35 secs. bgregor 2 Posted June 23, 2020 Author Posted June 23, 2020 How long does it take for a reply to queries or problems with Emby. I uploaded videos and logs 5 days ago and they haven't been downloaded yet.
bgregor 2 Posted June 25, 2020 Author Posted June 25, 2020 (edited) I posted a query on the 15th, Flicker in HD TV recording to which Luke replied asking for video and server logs etc, which I posted on the 18th. We are now a week on and my query hasn't been answered or looked at. I am now thinking what is the point of having a subscription and posting queries about issues and them not being answered. Not very happy when I am seeing all the other queries being answered Edited June 25, 2020 by bgregor Change title
rbjtech 5284 Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 (edited) Can you expand on what you mean by 'flicker' ? On the original .TS file - I see no issues with it at all. The 2 uploaded files - one has an audio sync issue (likely caused by it being LATM AAC audio) and the other has interlace issues - but lets focus on the source file for the moment. btw - as this is unlikely to be an actual QNAP issue, it is probably better if you post this in the general forums as you'll get a much wider audience there. bgregor 2 Posted June 26, 2020 Author Posted June 26, 2020 Thanks for coming back to me. It's difficult to explain so I have recorded what we are seeing when playing back on 2 Samsung tvs hopefully you will see the flicker just after the graphics. It's very annoying and happens all the time with HD emby recordings. . VID_20200626_135753.mp4
Luke 42077 Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 As a test, if you turn off the subtitles prior to playback, how does that compare?
rbjtech 5284 Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Is it just this TV programme where it happens ? I've had a detailed look at both the .TS and the above .MP4 - frame by frame .. .MP4 - Has what looks like corrupt frames at these time markers - immediately after the 'Chase the Case' graphics shows 0.662 - OK 0.695-0.828 - 5 Frames - Are basically letterbox'd .. 0.862 - Back to normal again. .TS - has identical weird frames after the graphic So in short - something on the original recording is causing your TV to 'panic' and probably attempt to resize itself perhaps ? Capture 1 -> Capture 3 show the sequence - this is your 'glitch' .. but I do not think it has anything to do with emby ...
bgregor 2 Posted June 26, 2020 Author Posted June 26, 2020 (edited) No rbjtech it's every HD program that is recorded. Its not consitstant it can be really bad say 10 times a min or once ever 3 to 5 mins. The thing is we are not seeing these glitches on the live tv stream only if I view though emby or record through Emby. I have just played this file through a Roku and it freezes at the end of the graphics. Other files with the same glitches just play through. I don't have subtitles turned on. rbjtech 5284 Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 What is the backend doing the recording ? ie HDHomeRun ?
rbjtech 5284 Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Hmm ok - can't help with that I'm afraid as I have no experience of it. It's probably worth posting this issue in the 'Live TV' section rather than the QNAP section - as I'm fairly sure it has nothing to do with your NAS. Ask one of the mods to move this topic there would be my advice.
bgregor 2 Posted June 26, 2020 Author Posted June 26, 2020 Thanks for your help anyway. Luke, could you move this to Live TV as per rbjtech's suggestion?

bgregor 2 Posted June 29, 2020 Author Posted June 29, 2020 (edited) What I mean is I have the same ariel feed going to 2 other tvs and when viewing the tvs directly I don't see the glitches only when using emby. Edited June 29, 2020 by bgregor
bgregor 2 Posted July 1, 2020 Author Posted July 1, 2020 No They are fed directly from the ariel feed.
Carlo 4560 Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 That's kind of what I though. It's most likely the problem is happening in the vbox android gateway which is the source.
bgregor 2 Posted July 8, 2020 Author Posted July 8, 2020 I've just watched a live tv programme through Emby and plex flicking back and forth between them. Plex didn't flicker or glitch. Emby on the other hand was gliching, sheering and flickering all over the place. It looks like Plex is performing the way it should and Emby is not cutting the mustard with HD programmes.
Carlo 4560 Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Is this on your vbox android gateway? Give us more info. Resolution and bitrate for both, method of play (ie direct, transcode), GPU transcode, etc
bgregor 2 Posted July 9, 2020 Author Posted July 9, 2020 (edited) Yes watching live tv on the vbox through both plex and Emby. 1080p but I don't know the bit rate. Both playing direct. Edited July 9, 2020 by bgregor
Carlo 4560 Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 On Emby you can bring up Stats for Nerds on the client to view this info.
