Mohammednt0 1 Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 (edited) Good Day, Q.1 What protocols does Emby use to share media? is it samba if so, which version of samba? Q.2 Does Emby use samba protocol to stream media over the internet? Q.3 I have disabled SMB v1 does that affect emby to to stream content properly? Carlo 4561 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 No Emby doesn't use samba to stream files. It using modern bitstreaming protocols made for streaming media. Same is for file sharing on local networks where you have access to the whole file and can randomly access it. Media files over the internet work a bit differently then that. Need more specifics or did this answer your question good enough?

Carlo 4561 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Not a problem but this can go in many different ways. So let me back up and ask you what is the format of your media you store on your hard drives? Maybe you can just "watch" what Emby is doing with your media via the the Server or any client itself. On a client you can pull up "Nerds" and see the format being delivered and it's bitrate as well as more info. You can also look at the server dashboard and see if files are delivered as is or being transcoded or convered and why. Do you mind me asking why you are asking about this? What is your worry or nature of asking about this? Is there something you are trying to avoid or work around? Give us some additional info to work on to know how to answer your question. Carlo

Carlo I'm using SMB file sharing Server to share my media & files, so i have been using video players that can play media via SMB servers for many years, I discovered Emby and i noticed that Emby does not say anywhere that its using SMB to stream media ! so i got Curious and i wanted to know more, That's pretty much it, If Emby doesn't use SMB! then what does it use ? what are these "modern protocols"? rechigo 364 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 These "modern protocols", most notably, are HTTP and HLS (http live streaming) that are used by Emby to stream content Unless you're direct streaming or transcoding, the protocol will most likely be HTTP, otherwise it'll be HLS 1 1
